Weighing Up Brock Lesnar: How Long Will He Hold His Title?

Leon HuynhAug 6, 2010

Brock Lesnar proved at UFC 116 that he is the baddest man in the world right now. But is he really?

UFC 116 also showed that Lesnar is indeed human and that his takedown attempts and stand-up game has holes which may be exploited.

Don't get me wrong Lesnar is one of my favourite fighters but Carwin showed that the man who has been dominant in the UFC so far showed some kinks in his previously impenetrable armour.

And the question is now; how long can he hold his title before someone comes around and uses those weaknesses?

Hopefully not for long. Lesnar's aggresive pace and speed for size makes him a very exciting champion to watch. And his upcoming fight against Cain Velasquez should be a very exciting one even though I totally believe that Velasquez won't be the one to de-throne the champion.

Velasquez has outstanding wrestling and ridiculous cardio for a heavyweight, but of course I believe that strength is the number one thing to have on your side in the tough Heavyweight division, Lesnar's size and strength will overpower the young star and get him on the ground.

You might argue that Carwin's wrestling skills stopped Lesnar's takedown attempts at 116, but I believe that it was completely dependent on the size and strength of Carwin who was Lesnar's equal.

Two other possible candidates for the throne are Junior Dos Santos and Roy Nelson who will face-off at upcoming PPV.

Dos Santos' incredible knockout power and Nelson's incomparable BBJ credentials are equals to Lesnar's strength.

My bold prediction for 117 is Nelson via TKO in the 2nd round .

But Nelson would be an interesting fight for Lesnar, his Gracie BJJ makes Lesnar unsafe whether he is on the dominant position or on the bottom. With his 260-ish pound frame Nelson matches Lesnar's size.

And another bold opinion is that Nelson can match Lesnar's stand-up game with Nelson winning 9 out of 16 wins via knockout.

Lesnar has dealt with BJJ before but from the slightly undersized Mir who gave Lesnar his first loss in the UFC, so Nelson is more than capable candidate for a title shot.

Don't underestimate Nelson because of his "frame", he is one of the top UFC heavyweights no doubt about it.
