Fleeting Thoughts From Around The World Of Wrestling

Josh BrewerAug 5, 2010

After the successful discussion created by last week's Fleeting Thoughts piece, I've decided to try to make it a regular late-week feature. Keep those comments coming!

This week has been pretty slow in pro wrestling, but my mind has been doing anything but resting. Let's take it from the top!

- The picture attached to the article is the new logo WWE is rumored to be implementing soon. My thoughts on the logo are two-fold.

First, what's wrong with the current logo? It's versatile and it's cool. Yes, it is a 13-year-old representation of the Attitude Era. But isn't its age a testament to its versatility throughout the ever-changing WWE landscape?

Secondly, I'd really like this logo if it didn't look like it read, "WE." The incorporation of the old-school stacked W's is a nice homage to the history of the company, but the "E" looks horrendously out of place. Would anyone be upet if the "E" was dropped from the design altogether?

- With reports swirling and discussion of an upcoming Fozzy tour, plenty of Internet attention has been placed squarely on the shoulders of Chris Jericho.

Jericho addressed the rumors in an interview on Monday Night Mayhem, saying he still loves the wrestling business and the Internet rumor mill.

WWE had better hope Jericho won't walk away when his contract expires this fall. After losing Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania, WWE doesn't need to take another talent hit—the void left by HBK would grow exponentially if Y2J left.

Hopefully Monday's alliance with Edge will solidify Jericho's long-term future on WWE's flagship program.

- Recognition must be given for TNA's writers for getting rid of the "Global Title" in favor of the TNA TV Title. It's got a little WCW stink on it, but the fact that AJ Styles is going to be defending it every week on iMPACT! gives the title some much-needed luster.

The title could be a productive tool for the young TNA talents. A long TV Title run, with a victory over Styles, could escalate the likes of Desmond Wolfe and Pope Dinero, who have "future world champion" written all over them.

Believing TNA will push their young talent, however, is a little naive. Prove me wrong, TNA. Please.

- The highlight of tonight's iMPACT! should undoubtedly be the Ultimate X match between Beer Money and The Motor City Machine Guns.

Even though Robert Roode and James Storm aren't exactly X Division competitors, I have faith they will deliver in Match Four of this excellent series.

And speaking of the Ultimate X Match, has there been a better concept match created since the Elimination Chamber was introduced in 2002? There have been some pretty ridiculous gimmick matches in TNA over the years, but Ultimate X always catches my attention. And I know I'm not the only one.

- Over the past few months, WWE has been creating their stars of tomorrow from the molds of successful stars of recent memory.

Sheamus is "new" Batista, Evan Bourne the "new" Rey Mysterio, The Miz the "new" Chris Jericho.

Who will Vince McMahon chose to be the new version of his son-in-law, Triple H?

Trips has never been able to stay healthy for long periods of time. This time around, however, H was injured while recovering from another injury and may not return until after Survivor Series.

The first name that springs into my mind is Drew McIntyre. From Day One, McIntyre was chosen as the future of the WWE. With his calculating ways and well-defined mean streak, could The Chosen One be the next Cerebral Assassin?

Do you agree with my observations? Disagree? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!
