County Championship Division Two, Round 11
Sussex and Glamorgan both won in the latest round of Division Two fixtures, firming their grip on the promotion places.
Top of the table Sussex have 169 points, winning six, drawing three, and losing two after an innings and 19-run thrashing away to Leicestershire.
The home side managed 204 in their first innings, thanks to Andrew McDonald's 63, as Lewis Hatchett took 5-47 in his third first class game.
Sussex were helped to 379 by Chris Nash's 184, despite Matthew Hoggard's 5-81.
Leicestershire were skittled for 156 second time around, Corey Colleymore ripping through the lineup with 6-48. as only Jacques du Toit (81) put up major resistance.
Glamorgan kept up the pressure on leaders Sussex after a 176 run win over Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.
The Welsh side have 155 points, winning six, drawing two, and losing three.
Glamorgan recovered from 104-7 to post 216, thanks to Mark Wallace (72) and Robert Croft (44), as Gemaal Hussain took 4-57.
But Gloucestershire sneaked ahead with 243, as James Franklin hit 59 while Jim Allenby took 5-59.
Centuries from Mark Cosgrove (123) and Wallace (113) set Gloucestershire a tough target of 345 for victory.
The home side made 163, Chris Taylor's 63 not out the only batting highlight, while Robert Croft finished with figures of 4-20, including a hat-trick to end the match.
Northamptonshire move up to third on 145 points, winning six, drawing one, and losing four after a four-wicket win away to Worcestershire.
The home side recovered from 158-7 to post 287 as David Wheeldon (50), Ben Cox (59), and Matt Mason (51 not out) all made half centuries.
Northamptonshire battled back from 98-8, but still only managed 158 as Worcestershire looked to have taken control.
But the away side's bowlers dismissed Worcestershire for 93, leaving a target of 223 for victory.
Alex Wakely's 68 helped ensure a four-wicket victory on Rob Newton's first class debut.
Gloucestershire slip a place with 134 points, winning five, drawing one, and losing five after their defeat to Glamorgan.
Leicestershire are fifth on 122 points, winning four, drawing one, and losing five matches after their loss to Sussex.
Middlesex moved up a few places on 116 points, winning three, drawing three, and losing six after an innings and 44 run with over Surrey at Lord's.
Surrey were bundled out for 167 in their first innings, Tim Murtagh taking 5-52 against his former team.
Middlesex piled on 423, Dawid Malan top-scoring with 107, despite Chris Tremlett's best efforts (4-90).
Surrey improved second time around to make 212 as Tremlett smashed 53 not out from 42 balls, but Toby Roland-Jones's 5-41 ensured Middlesex took the victory.
Worcestershire are on 114 points, three wins, four draws, and three defeats after their defeat to Northamptonshire.
Surrey slip to eighth on 111 points, winning three, drawing three, and losing five after their defeat to Middlesex.
Derbyshire prop up the rest on 92 points, winning two, drawing three, and losing five, but have a game in hand on most sides around them.
The next round of fixtures sees Leicestershire against Derbyshire (August 3-6) and Gloucestershire play Worcestershire (August 4-7).
