Could The World See Patrick Cote Get "Filthy" At UFC 121?

Dale De SouzaJul 21, 2010

The Filthy Mauler has his work cut out for him in Anaheim.

Tom Lawlor knows he dropped a narrow split decision to Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 20, and he submitted to Joe Doerkson—the replacement for "Crazy" Tim Credeur—at UFC 113.

He knows he's going to have to make his next fight count—and count in the "W" column, or else he could be out of the UFC.

Probably most important on Lawlor's mind, he knows he has to beat former UFC middleweight title contender Patrick "The Predator" Cote at UFC 121 to do it.

Hey, Cote understands.

He needs the win too.

His return to the cage against Alan Belcher at 113 didn't go as planned either.

They both need a win to put themselves back into the mix at 185 — Cote does, anyway.

Lawlor, arguably the most entertaining middleweight to have never been in a main event or co-main event slot on any fight card, has yet to establish himself as "in the mix" at middleweight.

A win over Cote would take the Jungle MMA standout to that next level, eventually establishing himself as a major player at 185.

First thing's first, though: He's going to have to get past Patrick Cote, who himself is a standout athlete, and one that represents Brazilian Top Team Canada.

Whether or not he does so on the televised broadcast of UFC 121 is another story.

The verbals have been made, the bout agreements have been signed, and the fight is scheduled to go down as planned, but UFC officials aren't sure if the fight will be televised or on an unaired preliminary.

With a substantial amount of time before UFC 121, those officials have all the time they'll need, but it doesn't change what we all know is going to happen.

Patrick Cote is going to square off against Tom Lawlor in what could be Lawlor's last hurrah in the UFC, and there's one other thing about it:

From the weigh-ins to the announcement of the final decision, it's going to be absolutely entertaining, regardless of what the outcome is.
