WWE vs. TNA: Which Invasion Is Better, Nexus or ECW?

The Doctor Chris MuellerJul 13, 2010

This article contains some spoilers from this week's TNA iMPACT tapings for Thursday, so if you don't like being spoiled, then stop reading here.

WWE and TNA both have somewhat of a similar storyline these days. WWE has an invasion by the Nexus, which is comprised of all the rookies from NXT season 1, minus Daniel Bryan, of course.

TNA on the other hand has a ton of ECW guys coming out of the woodwork these days in an apparent invasion angle. ECW alums have been seen at recent TNA events sitting in the crowd.

The angles each have their own unique twist, but when looked at side by side, they appear to be similar in certain ways.

In the WWE we have seen the Nexus run wild, attacking any superstar they see as a threat, or just annoying.

In TNA on the other hand the ECW guys have stuck to the audience, that is until this week's impact event where they will jump the rails and save RVD from an attack by Abyss.

According to the spoilers posted, the locker room empties and its mayhem between ECW stars and TNA stars. The ECW guys include Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Stevie Richards, Al Snow, and Bubba Ray even joined their side in the fight.

The more intriguing part of this story is who made their return to TNA during the segment. Mick Foley.

Foley's exit from TNA was obviously a work, and now he is back to take some kind of revenge on TNA for what he feels was backstabbing by management.

Over on the WWE side, we saw Nexus attack and destroy John Morrison and Yoshi Tatsu before they took on Cena in a six on one handicap match.

Cena held his own most of the match but was eventually overtaken by the numbers game and was pinned by Justin Gabriel after a beautiful 450 splash.

On a sidenote, Gabriel still gets cheered when he performs that move, which is funny since he is supposed to be kind of heelish right now.

After the match, Cena came back and attacked with a chair and cleared the ring. Sheamus even joined him to end the show.

I was a little surprised they had Sheamus run in to help, considering he just supported Nexus last week.

The two angles each have their own flavor, but there is no denying that TNA and WWE both had the same idea around the same time.

I personally have enjoyed the Nexus invasion because they are not trying to destroy the WWE, they are trying to dominate it. The ECW angle is still young and unclear as to what the intentions are, so I will hold off judgment until we see more.

The two companies are both making some improvements in my opinion as of late. TNA has really utilized some of their homegrown talent to the best of their abilities while WWE is doing a good job of putting young guys in the spotlight.

I want to make one more comment before the end of this article about an unrelated event from Raw.

The spot where Randy Orton RKO'd Evan Bourne in mid-shooting star press was simply amazing and both men deserve high praise for pulling off an amazing spot.

I would also like to extend my prayers to the family of Harvey Pekar. Pekar passed away after a long battle with cancer.

He was the author of the comic series American Splendor, which was eventually turned into an Oscar-nominated movie about the life of Pekar. He was a genius and he will be missed.

Thanks for reading and as always, comments are welcome.
