Uruguay vs. Germany World Cup 2010 Live Blog: Results, Scores, & Analysis
The World Cup is coming to it's conclusion with the penultimate game of the competition pitting Uruguay against Germany.
Despite the game being labeled as a conciliation match, both teams have reason to go out and try secure a win.
Germany looked a shadow of themselves in their semifinal encounter against Spain, and they will want to finish on a high to prepare themselves for the European Championship Qualifiers.
Uruguay will feel hard done by in their lost to Holland, and they will see the loss of Suarez and Fucile from their semifinal tie as one of the deciding factors in the game.
This game should have some entertaining football and some dramatic twists.
Full-time Synopsis: The game was a good as anyone could be expected. As a " conciliation" game there was excitement and goals.
Germany and Uruguay both went forward, both tried to win and as it turned out the game was quite entertaining.
Germany deserved to win in the end. They were far superior going forward, as well as in passing.
92: How Unlucky. Uruguay had a free-kick on the edge of the box. Forlan stepped up to take it and his absolutely shattered the crossbar with a rocket of a shot. He was inches from sending the game into injury-time.
90: Germany Sub: Ozil comes off for Tasci. Now every German player has played a game.
88: Uruguay Sub: Cavani comes off for Abreu.
85: Uruguay are throwing everything forward but it may be just too late for the South Americans.
Despite losing - if the game ends like this - Uruguay certainly have a lot to be proud of.
81: And surely that's the winner! Khedira headed the ball into the far right corner of the Uruguay goal after there was a little bit of ping-pong inside the box.
79: So close: Kiessling was just inches away from yet another excellent cross whipped in by Boateng.
Germany Sub: Kroos comes in for Jansen.
75: Germany are looking the most likely to score as Uruguay look to be tiring.
Kiessling's first strike on goal was a good one. He forced the keeper into making s strong save.
Uruguay Sub: Perez goes off to be replaced by Gargano.
73: Germany Sub: Kiessling comes on to replace Cacau. Cacau has been quite poor all game, doing very little up front.
68: Maxi and Aogo had a little wrestling match in one of the German corners and the pitch was flying up in chunks as if it was sand on a beach.
64: Butt was called into action again to stop Forlan from scoring his second and his country's third.
Germany are killing themselves with sloppy defending
62: What a strike! Suarez thundered a shot at the German net and Butt had to get his whole body behind the strike just to get the ball away from goal.
Suarez really hit that one sweetly. Bad ball my behind!
60: You could not ask for a better play-off game. Filled with end-to-end action and plenty of goals.
Great pace since the second-half has got going.
55: What a cross! Boateng whipped a cross in from the right which was inch perfect and dropped right on Jansen's head.
The left-back was sandwiched in between two Uruguayan defenders and the goalkeeper but managed to get the header on target.
50: What a goal! Diego Forlan thumped a volley in from the edge of the box.
Saurez and Arevalo put together a nice one-two, which results in a cut-back from Arevalo to Forlan, who finished in style.
47: How lucky! Cavani ran onto a through ball into the German box. Butt came off his line like a snail but managed to make the first save.
He also got back in position to prevent Saurez's effort off the rebound.
46: Again the Uruguayan goalkeeper looked very fragile while trying to defend a corner kick.
45: Germany start the second-half.
First-half Synopsis: The game has been entertaining, as both teams have set out to attack and try to but on somewhat of a spectacle.
The first goal really helped the match come alive and the second goal just added to that.
Germany look the more comfortable going forward and defending, but Uruguay look a massive threat on the break and this game could go either way.
45: The first-half ends 1-1.
44: Uruguay are looking very dangerous on the counter attack as they break very quickly in numbers.
42: Again the referee's at the World Cup show a terrible lack of consistency.
Lugano gave away a free-kick by deliberate use of the hand but was not shown a card.
41: He should have been better! Saurez was clear on goal and scuffed his shot wide across the goal.
He was at an angle but he should have tested Butt at least.
40: Some better passing in the final third and either one of these sides could be in the lead.
35: Germany despite all the changes to the squad are passing the more crisper and fluently.
30: The rain has stopped fall, but the vuvu crew are still in full voice - well full horn I should say.
27: Its all square! 'Steiger lost the ball on the halfway line and Uruguay went on a three-on-two- attack.
Suarez feed Cavani, who nicely slide the ball past Butt in the Germany goal.
Exciting stuff so far.
26: There has been great goalmouth action from both teams. Uruguay came close, as did Germany after holding off a Uruguay attack.
18: It's there!!! And he has wrapped up Young Player of the Tournament.
Muller was smart enough to follow a long-range effort from 'Steiger which the keeper could only parry into the middle of his penalty area.
Muller showed great intelligence to continue his run into the box, but the keeper will definitely have to shoulder the blame.
15: The game is going from end to end. Neither team has really opened the other up but both team are certainly trying.
09: How close was that! Freidrich got away from Suarez and smashed a header goalward, only to see it hammer of the crossbar.
This game has started quite lively.
05: A Forlan free-kick was struck into a Germany wall and Cacau stopped the ball with his hand.
Ironically enough Saurez had to persuade the official.
04: The first yellow is given to Aogo, and rightly-so. He went over the ball and into Perez's shin.
It was a very nasty tackle and could have been a red.
03: Germany have had the ball in the back of the net, but Cacau's goal was ruled out as Muller was coming back from an offside position when he set the striker up.
00: The third-place playoff gets underway.
Team News:
Uruguay: 4-3-3
Muslera

Pereira - Arevalo - Perez

One To Watch: Luis Saurez
Germany: 4-2-3-1

Prediction:
This game is hard to call. Germany have made wholesale changes to their line-up with Klose and Podolski both on the bench to name just a few.
Uruguay get Saurez back from suspension which will help them up-front, and Fucile will help tighten up their defense.
I think Germany will take this one, but it will be very tight, and it will not be a rearing German attack which we have witnessed for the most-part of this tournament.
