St. Jude Classic: Zach Johnson, Lee Westwood, Ben Crane Star in Fantasy Golf
Lee Westwood opened the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn., with a brilliant minus-seven to take the early lead.
Westwood was my backup fantasy player to J.B. Holmes, and was quickly activated for rounds two, three, and four.
Zach Johnson, my A entrant, shot a first round 67, for minus-three for the first day.
My other Yahoo! fantasy golf players, Rory McIlroy and Ben Crane, are also under par at minus-two and minus-three, respectively.
I continue an upward trend in Yahoo! fantasy golf, now passing all experts for the spring and full season. I am at 3,205 points, not counting Thursday's round at the St. Jude Classic, and in the 85th percentile currently.
Also playing well in Memphis on the first day was Casey Wittenburg, (wait a minute, who?) with a nice six-under-par and second place alone.
At five-under we find Lee Janzen and Padraig Harrington, a couple of guys used to winning a major or two, plus Shaun Micheel and Robert Karlson.
At four-under there are nine guys looking to play on Saturday and Sunday as well.
Look for this cut line to be at perhaps plus-one to even par, or even minus-one, if the weather holds up in Elvis Town.
Is it just my imagination, or does Ricky Fowler look like a grown-up "Dennis The Menace?"
I really don't like the bright-orange look on Sunday as well. I guess he can't pull off the all black Gary Player look, because he looks like a teenager.
Tiger has the red shirt on Sunday deal. Payne had the knickers, and was the only one to pull it off, but looking like a tangerine walking around does not instill any fear in anyone.
Please Ricky Fowler, get some nice comfortable Levi's, or perhaps some nice slacks and a cool shirt.
Let your golf get noticed, not your popsicle-like appearance. Or else, throw alligator logo's all over the orange so it makes some kind of sense.
