I Am Sick Of Hearing About Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao

Tyler CurtisJun 8, 2010

It sickens me to go on boxing websites everyday and see some sort of news of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fighting each other. On here it is pasted all over the front page.

I understand this is news and that people will read it. But truth be told, I don’t want to hear about it anymore. It is taking away from other boxing worthy news.

The fight would be a massive event and it would determine who the best fighter of this generation is. It would be impressive to see Freddie Roach and Roger Mayweather match wits.

It would be interesting to see Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao. Their styles would mesh well, as Pacquiao is an aggressor and Mayweather is a slick boxing counter puncher.

The problem is, why are we still talking about it and beating a dead horse? Yes, right now I am talking about it, but this is the first and last time I will until news comes out that a fight is closer than it is now.

This fight doesn’t have a good chance of happening if you ask me. There are a ton of roadblocks in the way of this fight and to pass them all looks bleak.

The blood testing question is the biggest out there for most people. Mayweather wants it to “clean” up the sport and Pacquiao doesn’t want to be dictated by it.

The main issue here isn’t really the blood testing anymore, it is all about ego. Both of these fighters have big egos and they want to dictate the terms of the contract and the money.

To split the money 50/50 seems almost impossible at this point. They both want the more money and you can’t do that. Someone has to get more money and who that will be won't be decided.

Another problem is Mayweather just doesn’t care. In his mind he is already the best of all time so he doesn’t need Pacquiao.

He already has a great resume and he truly thinks he doesn’t need Pacquiao to cement his legacy. He doesn’t care what people say or writein his mind he knows his legacy is cemented.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, is loved by all boxing fans and an entire nation. Why should he fight Mayweather and risk hurting his legacy?

Meanwhile the big fight at Yankee Stadium, the announcement of the pending release of contender James Kirkland, the David Haye-Wladimir/Vitali Klitschko rivalry, and some decent scraps have been overshadowed.

Writing about this fight, if it will or won’t happen, who will win, why isn’t it happening, is beating a dead horse. Neither one of these fighters want to make this fight happen.

Mayweather would rather keep his undefeated record intact and Pacquiao would like to keep his string of wins and aura of invincibility.

I am done picking sides on who is right or wrong.

I am done trying to figure out who will win.

At this point it is annoying to read about Pacquiao and Mayweather everyday.

There is more to boxing than these two fighters.

There are great fights happening every weekend. There are upsets, exciting fights, and title fights every weekend.

We need to stop praising two fighters who aren’t getting in the ring anytime soon and start focusing and praising the fighters who are entertaining us week in and week out.
