'Hurricane' Heun To Clash With KJ Noons At Strikeforce: Los Angeles
Due to scheduling conflicts of an unknown variety, Strikeforce fighter Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett has been removed from his June 26th encounter with Karl James "KJ" Noons at Strickeforce: Fedor Vs. Werdum.
In light of these actions, a press release has come out today announcing that in place of Bennett will be Conor "Hurricane" Heun, and Noons' fight will be promoted to the televised portion of the Strikeforce: Los Angeles.
With an overall record of eight wins and two defeats, those who love excitement and devastating knockouts will not be disappointed, as three of the past four opponents of "King Karl" have all gone down by way of stoppage, including an end-of-first-round stoppage of UFC veteran and current Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz at EliteXC: Renegade in November 2007.
Seven of KJ's wins in his career have come by way of TKO or KO, though he hasn't lost as such since his first fight with the "Krazy Horse" at the defunct EliteXC's February event "Destiny" in 2007.
Though a chance a redemption will evade Noons for the time being, his eyes have to stay focused on the fighter that will be in front of him when he steps into the Strikeforce cage at the promotion's first-ever mid-week event on Showtime.
Standing across from Noons is Strikeforce's own natural "disaster" at lightweight.
Justifiably nicknamed "Hurricane" due to the way he does damage to his foes in the cage, Conor Heun (8-3-0) may have a bit of a disadvantage when facing Noons in the standup.
A wrestler and Jiu-Jitsu fighter, five of Conor's eleven opponents have submitted, while only one of "Hurricane" Heun's opponents, James Edson Berto, suffered a TKO loss to Heuns.
Two of the only three losses on Heun's record were both split decision losses. First to recent Bellator season two welterweight fighter Brett Cooper, and second to current WEC featherweight L.C. Davis.
The third loss, a unanimous decision loss to former UFC lightweight and TUF 2 alumni Jorge Gurgel, should provide a suitable springboard back into the win column should he be able to submit Noons.
In addition to this lightweight affair, the Strikeforce: Los Angeles event will also see the return of former UFC light heavyweight title threat Renato "Babalu" Sobral, as he faces standout Strikeforce middleweight fighter "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler in a 195-pound catchweight fight that surely will not disappoint.
Also, fresh off his defeat in the fight for the inaugural Strikeforce welterweight championship against Nick Diaz, Marius Zaromskis will face off in the cage against Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos in a welterweight bout.
The Brazilian's last appearance in the Strikeforce cage was a hotly contested split decision loss to Joey Villasenor at the June 19th edition of Strikeforce: Challengers last year, but fresh off a first round TKO of Daniel Zarate last December, Evangelista will look to make his first Strikeforce outing of 2010 a successful one at the expense of "The Whitemare".
Finally, Tim Kennedy will face Trevor Prangely in what promises to be an exciting middleweight bout. A military war hero with eleven wins and two losses, Kennedy will have his work cut out for him when he faces the former UFC veteran Prangley who has twenty-two wins, five losses, and fights with the likes of Chael Sonnen, Jorge Santiago, Jeremy Horn, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, and current Ultimate Fighter 11 cast member Kyacey Uscola.
Strikeforce: Los Angeles will be live on Wednesday, June 16th from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California
For those attending the event live, the doors open at 6:15 PM; the first preliminary bout begins at 7 PM, and the first fight of the main card will begin at 8 PM.
For those who'll be watching the event on Showtime, the telecast will begin at 11PM, Eastern and Pacific Time, with a delay in time for those watching on the West Coast.
