EPL: Arsenal Transfer Speculation
It's Monday morning evening and after a very quiet weekend, from an Arsenal perspective, things are even quieter today. I had a huge rise in reads for my blog towards the end of last week and an even greater rise on Saturday and Sunday.
I now know that at least some of that was due to my good friend LadyArse taking a day off from her usual blog and recommending my blog along with a few others as alternatives for her usual readers. Hopefully I can keep things interesting and entertaining enough for most of you to stick around.
The transfer speculation continues today with a few of the usual names being mentioned such as Subotic, Mexes, Jagielka, Hart, Huntelaar, Parker, Schwarzer, Mandanda, and Buffon. Obviously the talk of Cesc going to Barcelona is still going on, and we can expect it to last all summer long I'm sure.
I've said it before and I'll say it again—I don't think Cesc is going anywhere this summer and I will be shocked if he does. It will cause me enormous difficulty if he does go as not only is my blog called "Cesc Is God," but that is also the legend on the back of my Arsenal jersey, and the way things are at the moment, I can't afford another.
One player we are linked with today is Viviano, who is the goalkeeper for Bologna, and I don't know too much about him but he can't be any worse than our current options. Arsenal have quite a few players going to the World Cup, but when it comes to goalkeepers we have none.
Almunia's country are among the favourites to win the World Cup, but he has never been called upon to represent them and he never will be because he isn't good enough.
Fabianski occasionally plays for Poland, but they haven't qualified for this year's tournament. When you look at our squad it is full of players who will be at the World Cup, or who are vitally important for their countries, but the same cannot be said about our keepers.
If we are to be considered one of Europe's elite clubs then surely we deserve a keeper who is in that classification as well. I know it isn't easy to find a top class keeper who is available, but the boss has such an extensive scouting network that he must have some options at least.
I don't know a single Arsenal fan who thinks that the current choices in goal are good enough for us to seriously think about winning the trophies each season, and until a new keeper comes in, I don't think we can win either of them.
Another story doing the rounds today is that a Labour MP called one of the Arsenal players a "fairy" at our recent match against Fulham, and his language was so bad in the executive box that a steward had to remonstrate with him. The way I read the story suggests that he owns the executive box despite being a Fulham fan which is quite curious, to say the least, if it's true.
Both Benik Afobe and Chuks Aneke are included in the England squad for European under 17 championships in Liechtenstein and they will be hoping to add that to their FA Academy Premier league title that they won with our youth team. Our ladies team finished their campaign yesterday with a 4-1 home win over Birmingham to finish 11 points clear of Everton in the league.
Despite all of his injury problems for us this season, Carlos Vela managed to play 35 minutes for his country in a 1-0 win over Chile yesterday as they warmed up for the World Cup. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the World Cup.
That's it for today in a blog that started in the morning and finished up in the evening for a variety of reasons which I'm sure nobody wants to hear about but which kept me incredibly busy all day.
Here's part one of 10 of all of Henry's goals for Arsenal. It's interesting to see all the goals and all the players he played with during his time with us, and I think I'll run the rest of the series over the next nine days.
See You Tomorrow.
