Chris Jericho and The Miz: Preparing For Awesomeness
Yes!
A thousand times yes!
The IWC likes to treat the WWE creative staff like a piñata, and most of the time, that treatment is warranted.
However, it appears that the WWE may very well hit a home run with the recent pairing of the Miz and Chris Jericho. Pairing two of the best talkers in all of the WWE has gold written all over it.
I know there is a sentiment in the IWC towards tag teams that are just thrown together for the sake of a storyline, but the team of Jericho and the Miz could reap huge rewards across the board for the WWE.
First, I’ll start with the Miz.
His star has been rising considerably fast since coming over from ECW last year. For a man that many thought would be an afterthought to John Morrison, he has proven to be gold on the mic and his abilities in the ring have improved substantially over the last few years.
Some folks may complain that the WWE should gear Miz towards a singles career again, but I think that could be foolish.
Raw is currently loaded to the brim with talent right now, and if you thrust Miz into singles competition, he would most likely get lost in the shuffle.
This situation is perfect for the Miz and I actually see this tag team as a stepping stone to bigger things for the him.
He gets to be in a steady feud with some very good workers that will further his in-ring development. Additionally, he will have one of the best workers in all of professional wrestling as his partner.
If you couple Miz’s work ethic with Jericho’s talent, Miz should benefit tremendously from this pairing.
Once the partnership with Jericho runs its course, there is a very real possibility that we could see a feud between Jericho and Miz. Given that both their characters sport big egos and bigger mouths this could be a money feud for the WWE by the end of the year.
Now let’s discuss Chris Jericho.
This is a man who does not need a World Championship around his waist to gain credibility. He is widely regarded as one of the best performers in all of wrestling.
Jericho thrived when he was on Smackdown, and had what I felt was the feud of the year with Rey Mysterio last year over the secondary Intercontinental Championship.
When he was moved to Raw in the most recent draft, many were fearful (myself included) that Jericho would be feed to John Cena on a weekly basis and be buried on the roster.
This feud is perfect to alleviate those fears.
Being in the tag team division allows Jericho to remain in the spotlight and bring credibility to yet another title, while at the time avoid being fodder to Super Cena.
Jericho will also be able to remain the alpha dog on Raw in a certain sense. As I mentioned before, Raw is loaded with stars at the moment, but being in the tag division will allow Jericho to remain the biggest name in that particular title picture.
Jericho has also shown an overwhelming willingness to put over talent for the WWE (see Heath Slater from NXT as a prime example) and Jericho will help the Hart Dynasty as well as the Miz grow over the course of their feud.
Lastly, this pairing is great news for the struggling tag team division.
Remember when we were all treated to the 156,480,091 matches between the Hart Dynasty and Cryme Time on Superstars for roughly the last year?
My oh my how things have changed.
The Hart Dynasty has been on a meteoric rise since Bret Harts arrival and was finally able to capture the Unified Tag Team titles.
They are very over with the fans and have the in ring ability to go with just about anyone; the only problem is who would they feud with?
The Dudebuster? No thanks
The creation of JeriMiz (or whatever they will be called) brings instant credibility to the tag team division. The Hart Dynasty now has a real threat for the belts and should lead to some very entertaining matches.
With credibility comes high profile matches.
High profile matches become pay-per view matches.
Those pay-per-views lead to increased exposure and a bigger push.
The more often the tag belts are defended on pay-per-view the more credibility will be given to those belts, and with the WWE seemingly trying to reestablish the tag team division, this will be a positive move going forward.
The Miz and Chris Jericho together as a tag team; now that’s awesome.
