UFC 113 Results: Bizarre, Incredible

Bleacher ReportMay 8, 2010

I haven't been that elated in a main event since St. Pierre/Hughes II.

Lyoto Machida versus Mauricio Shogun Rua at UFC 113 will go down as one of the most incredible fights in UFC history.

With so many people discussing who won the first fight, the table was set for the rematch to end in fireworks.

Dana White said in a pre-fight press conference that both main even fighters would look to avoid the judges' score cards tonight. Shogun got the message.

After referee Yves Lavigne started the fight, immediately it felt like the first match. It was as if they simply continued the fight into round six. Honestly.

After both fighters getting right down to business and trading exchanges, followed by some ground work, Shogun Rua eventually landed an overhand right that caught Machida in the temple and put him on the mat, stunned.

Shogun proceded to make every punch count by pouncing on the Dragon and putting him to sleep in brutal fashion. With as unstoppable as Machida has been, I think every MMA fan figured they'd never see Machida that worse for wear.

Mauricio Shogun Rua is the new light heavyweight champ and arguably one of the pound for pound best once again.

Rivaled mostly by Anderson Silva as one of the most exciting strikers in the UFC, Shogun will likely let that one wait and face the winner of Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans, which will take place later this month.

It seems Shogun has returned to where he was in Pride, as a lethal, feared fighter inside the ring/octagon. Let the match making and pound for pound talk commence over the web.

The night wasn't without it's downright weird events either. After a strange fight in which Josh Koscheck did literally nothing but blanket Paul Daley, who wasn't good enough to fend him off, Daley proceded to punch K-os AFTER THE FIGHT.

Earlier in the match Koscheck took a dive on a phantom knee that never hit it's target while he was down on one knee himself. The knee resulted in a point taken from Daley, but was later restored to him after the replay showed Koscheck wasn't ever hit. Expect both fighters to be ridiculed in the online community and Daley will also likely recieve disciplinary action from the UFC (in fact he'll never fight in the octagon again, according to Dana White.)

For two guys who were supposed to be simply entertainment, at least Matt Mitrione and Kimbo Slice showed great sportsmanship and class, outdoing both Koscheck and Daley in that regard.

It's funny how the Daley/Kos fight was supposed to showcase top tier competitors, while all it did was make a mockery of the sport. Many critics consider Kimbo Slice a mockery of the sport and don't give him a chance.

I agree that he won't be competitive in the UFC, nor will Mitrione. But at least they didn't make the event Strikeforce-ish.

The Alan Belcher vs Patrick Cote fight was excellent, it was exciting both on the ground and standing. The contest concluded with Belcher securing the neck and finishing Cote in the second round via rear naked choke. He will likely face the winner of Akiyama/W. Silva next.

The Canadian Sam Stout also had a great fight, but came out on the wrong end of a decision against Jeremy Stephens. Stephens dictated the pace of the fight and beat Stout to every punch basically. Up next for him should be Takanori Gomi, at least I think.

UFC 113 was an incredible event and like I said, the main event was simply stunning. Every fan who tuned in for the fights tonight will go away pleased.
