How Would These Pay-Per-Views Work in Today's WWE?

Anakin CaneMar 30, 2010

With all the talk of renaming pay-per-views and getting rid of some, I have thought of a year's worth of pay-per-view programming the WWE could enlist.

I would hope each of them would be a grand slam, but this is just one man's opinion and if they would really work.

January—Royal Rumble

The WWE calendar is set up for the Royal Rumble to be the beginning on the road to WrestleMania. Leave it be and keep the card the same.

February—Elimination Chamber

The Elimination Chamber has been used of late to tie up the loose ends heading into WrestleMania and getting the ball rolling for a few matches to put on WrestleMania. The card is not broken, so let's not fix it.

March/April

WrestleMania is the biggest card of the year. Keep the same format, maybe go to a five-hour show. Keep WrestleMania at the end of March, or beginning of April and let the fans catch their breath and not have another pay-per-view until May.

May—Backlash

WrestleMania is the time to end feuds or begin new ones. Lately, the pay-per-view after WrestleMania has been a ton of rematches.

So let's just have some rematches for those special matches at this pay-per-view. Examples of this from this past WrestleMania could be Sheamus vs. HHH and Edge vs. Jericho.

The new feuds could be opened up for this pay-per-view, such as Hart Dynasty vs. ShowMiz.

June—King of the Ring

Let's make the King of the Ring noteworthy. Have the TOP superstars compete for a 16-man elimination tournament. The winner of the tournament gets the shot for the WWE or World title at SummerSlam.

In addition, these tournament matches will also give a rub to future superstars, i.e., Stone Cold, and aid in setting up future feuds.

July—Great American Bash

Let bring the Bash back, 1980's Jim Crockett Promotions style.

Not all 30 days will be used as a pay-per-view, but with all the WWE programming on television, every card can be shown. The RAW, Smackdown, NXT and Superstars will all be part of the Great American Bash.

The World and WWE champions will be required to defend the titles at the Smackdown and RAW Bash shows.

Let's do this setup for two weeks culminating in the big pay-per-view show on the last Sunday night. Bring back WarGames to make this show even more special.

August—SummerSlam

The biggest and last show of the summer will be used to put an end to some feuds and start new ones. The main event will be the King of the Ring winner taking on the champion of his choice.

September—Unforgiven

Basic pay-per-view, just as previous Unforgiven shows. Some great matches have come out of this pay-per-view and it just has a cool name to it.

October-Halloween Havoc

I was thinking of doing a pay-per-view with matches tied to Halloween themes. The downside is too many themed type pay-per-views get old really quick.

So this pay-per-view is up for debate. The company could go with the Hell in a Cell theme, which ties into Halloween. The other option is the bragging rights theme.

November—Survivor Series or World War III

For this pay-per-view, two choices could be used. The Survivor Series should go back to the elimination style matches, then the survivors meet up in a final match with the winner getting the title match for the December pay-per-view.

The final match with the survivors will have to be either a battle royal or elimination match.

My thought process is to have the survivors put on two sides then if one team still has more than one survivor then the match turns into an elimination match. Gives new meaning to the term "survivor."

The other concept is to draw tag teams and the winning tag teams fight it out in a two ring battle royal. Just like the 1991 version of Battle Bowl.

Either way, the winner gets the title match at the December pay-per-view.

December—StarrCade

Let's bring back StarrCade.

The show preceded WrestleMania and the other WWE pay-per-views. StarrCade gave new meaning to the term, supercard. The November survivor gets the title match. StarrCade can start the road to WrestleMania.

Would these pay-per-views work today? Yes they should.

The cards such as King of the Ring and November's pay-per-view could give rise to younger stars and see if these wrestlers can carry a main event.
