Way Too Early Spring Time Heisman Watch

LoudMouf Sports Mar 30, 2010

Mark Ingram's name won't even be brought up in this article for obvious reason, we all know he is an automatic candidate due to his 2009 campaign. I will start off by disappointing all Miami fans and say that I think Jacory Harris is a fluke and not as good of a quarterback as he is made out to be. The guy has nothing but 6'3 receivers who can run and jump through the roof, it's the college edition of the San Diego Chargers.

Julio Jones - After suffering somewhat of a sophomore slump, I expect him to have a beastly year, because you've got to figure in order for the Crimson Tide to repeat they have to have McElroy and Jones stretching the field and opening up running lanes for Ingram and Richardson. Also, keep in mind he is eligible for the NFL Draft and I don't know about you, but I am pretty sure he doesn't want to settle for anything less than a first-round pick. With Julio Jones great route running and colossal frame I expect him to make some huge plays for the Crimson Tide's pursuit of a repeat.

John Clay - This guy is such a load to bring down it makes, former Wisconsin Heisman winner, Ron Dayne seem like a middle schooler. Last year John Clay totaled up 1,500 yards leading the Badgers to a great season and finishing it off by beating Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. Clay had six games where he rushed from 120 yards or more and only had four games in which he didn't reach century mark in rushing. I expect that tough Badger line to make a good, solid push for John Clay to be a Heisman candidate in 2010.

Josh Nesbitt - In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, Nesbitt just 'can't get no respect.' I live in Atlanta and I am thoroughly annoyed by the geeky, nerdy fans of Georgia Tech football, but my goodness Josh Nesbitt was pretty good last year if you look at his stats. The guy threw for 1,700 yards, rushed for 1,000, and had 18 rushing touch downs and most of them were for around 20 yards so it's not like this guy just laid on his center and got some easy stats. He worked for every single one and even though he wasn't so pretty against Iowa or Miami, but let's be honest, it was Nesbitt that makes that offense run not Dwyer. Look out for those nerds of Ga Tech in 2010.

Dion Lewis - That guy is something special and had it not been for his inadequate defense he would've gotten more national attention playing the Gators in the bowl game. This guy has "It" whatever it is, he just has that ability and that swagger. I won't even read off stats for this guy just watch him this year.

Christian Ponder - This guy is the real deal! Jake Locker wasn't smart about not going to the draft because it's going to come down to him or Ponder. Ponder had a passer rating of 147.4, threw for 2,717 yards, and 14 TDs while only throwing seven picks and six of those seven picks came in his last two games before his injury, and four of those picks were due to dropped passes by his receivers. For those out there who may think his shoulder injury has hampered him and his abilities should know that he has shown no ill effects in FSU's spring practices this year picking apart his fellow FSU defense, under new DC Mark Stoops and his zone scheme. Even if he isn't going to win Heisman, look for him to be the top QB in this year's draft.

Terrelle Pryor - We have all seen his maturation from freshman year going into his junior year now. He isn't the second coming of Vince Young in my opinion I think he has far much more upside and with fellow junior WR Posey and him developing a great relationship I can't wait to see the Buckeyes. Pryor has a good work ethic and showed me a lot against Oregon last year and I feel that he will add more to his game this year and really give the Buckeyes a shot to get back to the national championship. I am sure Kirk Herbstreit will annoy us plenty of times this year by telling us all how amazing Pryor is and why Herbstreit is the best QB that ever played for OSU, NOT!

A.J. Green - Yes, it was hard because it came down to Kellen Moore of Boise State, Ryan Williams of Va Tech and Michael Floyd of the Fighting Irish, but come on it's A.J. Green and everyone has seen his amazing catches he reels in and turns into Sportscenter. Unlike Julio Jones of Alabama, Green didn't have any type of a sophomore slump in fact he was in route to a pretty good year until he got hurt and missed a few games. The main thing that is going to prevent A.J. from propelling himself into the Heisman race is the three quarter backs dueling it out in Athens. Whoever can get the ball to Green will probably be the one to take the starting spot, my guess, just for good measure, it will be Aaron Murray that kid is a saint!
