There Is NO WAY Shawn Michaels Loses This Sunday.
Fact: Ric Flair went out at Wrestlemania 24 on a winning-streak that started in January of that year.
If Shawn goes out this Sunday, his winning streak would have started two weeks ago on Raw (when he defeated Chris Jericho via Countout). This is after a horrid losing streak and deterioration of his character that began in January. That Shawn Michaels only relevant win in 2010 came on the Raw prior to Wrestlemania at the hands of Kane does not show the proper respect to the man who is arguably the best to ever step in the ring (and I can make a pretty good argument backing that point).
Fact: Undertaker, and his gimmick casket match, were responsible for robbing Shawn Michaels of his prime, causing him to miss out on what many consider to be the biggest and most popular era of professional wrestling ("The Attitude Era" from 1998-2001).
HBK never got to face The Rock, never had the program with Austin that they were building up towards (King of the Ring '97 and on had Shawn and Austin in a program for no title and it helped kick-start the "The Attitude Era," but The Hart Foundation was central to it. HBK put Austin over in Boston but never had the chance to fued with Austin over the belt. (I also think it's safe to say that Owen Hart would still be here had HBK been around to fued with Austin, as the Owen/HHH fued would have led to Owen/Bret and the younger Hart never would have found himself revisiting that goofy-Blue Blazer gimmick.)
Imagine the fueds HBK would have had with Christian, Edge and RVD? The role he would have played during the Invasion angle or with the nWo angle? Hogan/HBK may have taken place sooner because more than likely Shawn would have superkicked Hogan out of the group the night after WM18.
Shawn Michaels, the wrestler, recovered from that freak accident that occured at the 1998 Royal Rumble and has come back to secure his legacy after missing those four years. Shawn Michaels, the man, has recovered far greater and personally needed that time off to find himself
Arguable point: Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker are the two most important WWF/WWE Superstars in terms of legacy and loyalty.
Neither one jumped to WCW and neither one has jumped to TNA. They, moreso than Hogan, Austin, HHH, The Rock, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, and John Cena are deserving of entering the WWE Hall of Fame while still active Superstars and they each have, perhaps, the two most storied WWF/WWE careers of anyone to ever grace the WWF/WWE ring
Speculation: The Undertaker is retiring this year, and perhaps at or shortly after Wrestlemania.
He just had his "Last Hurrah Championship Title Run" after taking much of last year off post-Wrestlemania. He's 48 years old now and doesn't have that much left in the tank. If he isn't "forced into retirement," than he can always come back a few times a year to perform at a big PPV, kind of like The Rock did his first few years in Hollywood. Undertaker loses at Wrestlemania 26 to Shawn Michaels, the streak is broken, and Undertaker goes on one of his long hiatuses. He comes back a couple of times a year as a "major attraction" to embark on short fueds with up-and-coming Superstars or to settle a score with a top heel. Hell, I predict that Shawn even seeks out his services to bring him back in a major fued sometime before year's end.
Arguable point: There is only one Superstar right now on Raw who can bring credibility back to the WWE Championship and that Superstar is Shawn Michaels.
The WWE Championship has been losing credibility ever since No Mercy, 2007 when Triple H and Randy Orton traded the belt back-and-forth to open and close the PPV. Cena's comeback from injury that year and the boring feuds that have followed, and subsequently have seen the Title change hands on an almost bi-monthly basis, have rendered that particular Title to an almost meaningless state.
Think about it. Who has been in the biggest match at each Wrestlemania since then? Shawn Michaels. Have any of those matches had any Championship incentives? None. Michaels/Flair is what most remember and talk about from WM24. Michaels/Taker is the only match that anybody talks about or remembers from WM25. Michaels/Taker II is probably going to close out this year's show. If Shawn Michaels can make his non-title affairs mean more than whatever program WWE is putting out for their supposedly main prize, than a lengthy HBK Championship reign will instantly bring the title back to credibility.
As of right now, he is the only one who can bring it back to relevance and a reign from Summerslam-Mania 27 or from June/July-September/October and another one from Survivor Series-Mania would both allow HBK his "Farewell Tour" as well as bring the WWE Championship back to a relevant state.
Further point: Shawn has provided WWE TV with two of the most dramatic storylines ever in the JBL-HBK program from '08/'09 and in the current program he is in with The Undertaker. Shawn put Taker over at Mania last year and brought Taker's best out as that 17th Wrestlemania match was better than every Mania match Taker had ever been in, unquestionably. Perhaps Shawn even brought out the best Undertaker match ever last year. I believe that Taker knows that if anybody should put a blemish on his Wrestlemania record, then it is Shawn Michaels, and I believe that Undertaker may have been the one to bring the idea to Vince and booking to have the rematch take place and to put HBK over. The program Shawn was rumored to head into for this year's Mania was for him to face Triple H (which is why Triple H is currently in WM limbo for the first time since 1996, finding himself facing off against Sheamus with no prior back-story whatsoever).
I have no inside source, but I sincerely believe that Taker is the one who orchestrated this ordeal and that after HBK returning and having overcome his past demons and bringing out two of Taker's best performances ever in their Royal Rumble 2006 encounter and at last year's Wrestlemania, and with Taker perhaps feeling responsible for the HBK back injury, Taker will gladly put Shawn over this Sunday.
