Return Of The Chiefs: How The Chiefs Will Be Competitive This Season

Will WalkerMar 18, 2010

Last year was not a good one for Arrowhead Nation. The Chiefs went 4-12, and lost star HB Larry Johnson to free agency. But fear not Arrowhead Nation! I see great things this year. I began to think that the Chiefs were going to be contenders not long after the signing of former Jets HB Thomas Jones. Thomas Jones brought the Jets back from the dead in 2008, compliying 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jones is more than a replacement for Larry Johnson, he is a team changer. Jones isn't the only reason Kansas City will be competitive next year.

The Chiefs were plagued with injuries last year. QB Matt Cassel, LB Derrick Johnson, WR Chris Chambers and LB Mike Vrabel all had injuries last season, and now that a new season is commencing, the Chiefs have a shot to be competitive. I am not totally sure about a offensive minded coach (Todd Haley) working with a defensive minded team. However, I think that the players on the Chiefs will make up for the mistakes that Todd Haley WILL make this season.

Defense is the major reason I've got the Chiefs as competitors. Tamba Hali hasn't been a star but he is cretainly a ferocious and powerful linebacker. Despite his teams poor preformance, Hali managed to comply 8.5 sacks and 46 tackles last year, a career high. Mike Vrabal had a good season too, despite a injury. He complied 53 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. Though Glenn Dorsey hasn't got many sacks, he is very good at occupying blockers and letting other guys get the sack. People call him a "bust" because he isn't pyling up Warren Sapp numbers, but he is just doing his job right.

The Chiefs will have a suprising season this year, and a good one. Don't expect to mutch but this year, I predict the Chiefs will go 9-7 and finish 3rd in the AFC West.
