The Latest Predictions: Why WrestleMania 26 Will Be the Best Ever
With WrestleMania 26 just a little over a week away, I am revising my predictions after a few weeks of consideration.
Remember, these predictions are those of a mere wrestling fan, who doesn't know anything about backstage dealings and isn't a know-it-all from the IWC. My observations are akin to those of a fan or journalist from the days of "Pro Wrestling Illustrated."
Legacy Implodes Match: DiBiase vs. Rhodes vs. Orton
Expect Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. to focus their energy and hatred on Randy Orton. I expect Orton to come out on fire, but after a few minutes, Rhodes and DiBiase will beat down the former Legacy leader. The end will come when Rhodes and DiBiase start bickering to see who will pin Orton—that's when the Viper will strike. Expect a few RKOs as Orton gets the pin fall over Rhodes.
Unified Tag Title Match: Morrison and Truth vs. ShowMiz
I don't know about you, but I like my tag teams with creative names. John Morrison and R-Truth sound like they are a unit and not just two guys teaming up for one night. With that said, I do not expect them to walk out as champs. Look for Morrison to view the Miz's success as a bad guy favorably and decide to turn on Truth during the match.
Money in the Bank: Kane vs. Bourne vs. MVP vs. Christian vs. Ziggler vs. Swagger vs. Hardy vs. McIntyre vs. Benjamin
Wow, nine men this year. The match continues to grow in size and it makes it even harder to predict. Kane is too immobile to get up the ladder quickly enough to win and seems unable to beat anyone lately. Jack Swagger's overconfidence always dooms him. Remember how he kept saying he would easily win the Royal Rumble? How did that turn out for ya, Jack? Drew McIntyre is the Bosses' choice, but he will not win. Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, and Christian all have experience in this match, and Christian and Hardy are both masters of the ladder match. I do not expect much out of Dolph Ziggler unless his cheerleaders come to the ring with him. The match will come down to Hardy and Christian, giving the fans a history lesson from the TLC matches of old. When the smoke clears, expect Christian to hold up the briefcase and learn a little from his old tag partner. More on that later.
Bret Hart vs. Mr. McMahon
A few weeks ago, I believed Bret Hart would lose this match due to his condition and ring rust. Now, with the injury just a fake, expect him to stomp a mud hole in Vince McMahon and walk it dry. As for the ring rust, Hart must have been in training for the past months without anybody's knowledge. He tricked the Boss into the match.
HHH vs. Sheamus
This is another tough call. "The Game" is a WrestleMania veteran and Sheamus is on a hot streak. "The Celtic Warrior" is one of the few wrestlers to match HHH in evilness and ruthlessness from back during the McMahon-Helmsley Era. HHH has some of the best entrances and some of his best matches during WrestleMania, though the outcomes do not always go in the favor of "The King of Kings." I expect a fluke win for Sheamus similar to his win over John Cena.
Career vs. Streak: HBK vs. Undertaker
No holds barred, there must be a winner. The only thing that would make this match more emotional would be to put it inside the Hell in the Cell. Tough, extremely tough call. Shawn Michaels has faced better opponents than the Undertaker at WrestleMania, but "The Deadman" has not shied away from a challenge and always takes advantage of WrestleMania, as shown by his undefeated record. Last year the Undertaker looked a little worried; this year he looks angry, and no one wants to face an angry Taker—well, no one except HBK. One mistake will once again have HBK walking to the back a loser, but this time will be the last time.
WWE Title Match: Cena vs. Batista
First off, when can we please get rid of the spinner belt? It looks more like a prize from a box of Honeycombs than a legitimate heavyweight title.
The parallel careers of Cena and Batista meet on the biggest stage of them all. If not for all the other great matches on this card and the battle these two had at SummerSlam 2008, this match could have had the biggest buildup since Warrior vs. Hogan. Batista has been destroying and making Cena's life miserable since the Chamber. Expect Batista to be too confident, and Cena loves the underdog role. The match will end with the inevitable SuperCena holding the title above his head.
World Title Match: Edge vs. Jericho
The animosity between these two started after Edge was injured and Chris Jericho decided to run his mouth about being the leader of the team. Neither one has gotten an advantage over the other in the weeks leading to this matchup. Expect a grueling match as both make WrestleMania 26 the greatest ever.
A spear from the Ultimate Opportunist will end Jericho's hold on the title. Then, just as Edge is celebrating, expect Christian to cash in the briefcase. After a few minutes, an exhausted Edge will not be able to escape as champion. The Former Creepy Little Bastard will finally become a world champion in WWE.
