Why Jose Mourinho is Unbeatable at Stamford Bridge

John SmithMar 17, 2010

Jose Mourinho walked out with a close win again at Stamford Bridge last nightalbeit sitting in the other dugout.

Mourinho had only lost two matches at Stamford Bridge whilst in charge of Chelsea before taking the reigns of perennial Serie A Champions, Inter Milan. The two losses include a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona FC and a loss on penalties against Charlton in the FA Cup.

One could brainstorm and discuss that, whether he will lose against his old club at his famous hunting ground or he will repeat his nearly undefeated record at Stamford Bridge.

However, last night his side were never going to lose. Inter played fantastically well.

They defended with typical Italian gusto and excellent awareness.

Chelsea may feel aggrieved to not have won a penalty for either of the American football style tackles which were made on Ivanovic and Drogba in the first half. However, I think Drogba went down far too easily from the challenge of Walter Samuel.

Anyway, the bottom line is: Inter Milan were the better team and Chelsea never looked like scoring.

Samuel Eto'o's brilliantly taken outside of the right boot finish just put icing on the cake and assured that Inter would pass into the quarter finals at the expense of the folks in blue. It was really a fantastic goal, another splendid through ball from Wesley Sneijder who was absolutely outstanding all night, and this time played with his "weaker" left foot.

Later on Didier Drogba was sent off. I suppose the referee believed him to have stamped on the player marking him. I didn't see very clearly but I wouldn't be surprised if the referee was correct in his decision because Drogba's protest was the most guilt ridden one I've seen in a long time. I know if I didn't do anything wrong and someone flashed me a red card I would stand up for myself a lot more than the Ivorian did last night.

In conclusion I´m pleased about the results from last night, I think the weaker teams went through and I would be happy drawing any of those two teams in the next round, although I would probably prefer to avoid Mourinho as his record against Arsene Wenger is almost as good as his Stamford Bridge one.
