TNA: Dont Try So Hard
By their very existence, TNA gives the wrestling fan, an alternative to the WWE. With the arrival of Hogan, Flair, Hall, Waltman, Hardy, and others, they have stamped their authority on the wrestling world, though some may justifiably agree that not all their achievements have been good. However having witnessed the beginning of the Monday Night Wars II, I can’t help but feel that TNA in their pursuit of their neighbours in the north, are simply trying to create success too quickly.
The recent return of Flair and Hogan to the ring is perhaps a case in point, two wrestling legends clashing one more time with their respective protégés at their side. Not many of us would really want to see the now laboured Hogan or Flair clash again but it is what happened during the match and the rest of the show that is most telling.
Blood, sex and violence - three things that defined the Attitude era are now commonplace in TNA and absent in the PG WWE. The bloodfest main event in TNA differs dramatically in comparison to the WWE's very lame Elimination Chamber and Hell in a Cell events. The face of TNA no longer is Styles, Joe or even Hardy but Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan or indeed any superstar wearing their own blood.
The reality of it all is though that TNA doesn’t need to move that quickly, it doesn’t need to bloody every superstar that enters the ring, it doesn’t need gimmicks and screw-jobs - it simply needs to offer normal stories and normal wrestling matches.
The wrestling world is frustrated by the WWE PG stance, partly influenced in my opinion by Linda McMahon's senatorial race , and so TNA in order to close the gap and potentially even to win the M.N. Wars - needs to offer not one good show but 100, then another 100 and so on until their fan base returns to WCW proportion.
TNA - You have our attention, just don't ruin the opportunity but pushing every taboo to the extreme so quickly. The future of wrestling depends on TNA's success in challenging the WWE.
