Juventus-Siena: Player Ratings In Black and White

Adam DigbyMar 14, 2010

Juventus went into this game needing to make up ground on fourth place, and were in good form following victories over Fiorentina and Fulham. After a blistering start, which put them three goals ahead after just 10 minutes, they allowed Siena back level with some poor defending. Most definitely two points dropped, and many will view the result as proof of just how far this Juventus has to go before they are ready to compete seriously for trophies.

Antonio Chimenti: 5

A late call up to the starting line-up after yet another injury, this time to Alex Manninger. He was only back into the squad following an injury of his own, and the rust showed clearly here.

Zdenek Grygera: 4

At fault for giving Siena a way back into the match with an error leading to the first goal, he then bundled Maccarone over in the box, allowing them to equalise from the spot to pile the misery on Juventus who thought games like this were behind them.

Fabio Cannavaro: 5.5

Mixed afternoon for the Italy captain as he shares blame with Grygera on Siena's first goal, but saved another later on with a crucial interception. Not a performance on a level with his last two outings by some distance.

Nicola Legrottaglie: 6

Was playing quite well up until his departure, which certainly cost his team dearly here. Suspension means he would miss Fulham game in any case.

Paolo De Ceglie: 5.5

Returned to the starting line-up due to Grosso being seemingly unable to play three games a week at this point, and his confidence has certainly suffered after his demotion. Just not in this game at all.

Momo Sissoko: 6.5

A good performance today, full of energy and made plenty of good tackles. Also contributed well to the attack, his shot giving Del Piero the easiest of tap-ins for the opener.

Felipe Melo: 5.5

A poor showing from the Brazilian today, not involved much at either end of the field. A goal-line clearance in the first half was virtually his only contribution.

Claudio Marchisio: 5

After discussing the fact he rarely has poor games this week, Marchisio clearly set out to prove such matches exist. Camoranesi took his place at half time.

Antonio Candreva: 7

Good performance from him today, building on his solid display on Thursday night against Fulham. Seemed inspired by the faith Zaccheroni put in him to be Juve's main source of creativity as he rested Diego for the first time. Scored one and was heavily involved in the other two goals as well. Player of the Day

Alessandro Del Piero: 7

The Captain got Juve off to a dream start, scoring his 300th career goal just after kickoff, and added to the joy when goal number 301 came along just a couple of minutes later. Was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick with a header that went close. Did his job well, but was let down by others today.

David Trezeguet: 5

Spurned two good chances today, and as most Juventus fans will tell you, when he isn't scoring he gives nothing to the team. This outing was poor from a player who normally is a guarantee of goals.

Substitutes

Mauro Camoranesi: 5.5

Brought on to inject some much-needed impetus into the Bianconeri attack, but did very little. Disappointing on an afternoon when Juventus needed the attributes normally associated with the World Cup winner.

Hasan Salihamidzic: 5

Much like Camoranesi, his arrival should have been seen as a positive move, yet he too disappointingly added little to the attack.

Diego: NM

Not given enough time to change the outcome.
