Monday Night Starts Off Right
The two months between January 4th and March 8th have largely been a letdown. Ratings have dropped and Impact hasn't done much of anything at all. While January 4th was a bit of a mess, March 8th felt just right.
The show had direction. Every segment (or almost every segment) advanced a storyline. I'm not sure if the lack of hype for Destination X thus far is too much to overcome, but TNA certainly made up for lost time.
The Three Way Match between Kazarian, Doug Williams, and Daniels was a much better showcasing of the X Division than that no contest cage match held on January 4th. There was no explanation as to why Shannon Moore gets a title shot but it's better than Brian Kendrick
Hogan and Flair didn't look too bad in the ring. Flair actually took a couple bumps that I was shocked to see a 61 year old man take. It didn't make sense that the partners stood by and watched their teammates get beat up if it was No DQ but that's a minor complaint. It also set up the A.J. Styles-Abyss match quite nicely.
Hardy looked like someone that mattered. His debut on January 4th left much to be desired. Now it looks like he's in the main event picture.
Sting's heel turn may be the spark he needs to get his character going again. It was nice to see him in action as opposed to looking down from the rafters.
RVD showed that he's still got it. The match wasn't long but that makes their inevitable match at Lockdown all the more sweeter.
The Knockouts weren't great but they didn't have to be. The Beautiful People looked good and the audience will likely be forgiving.
The Band didn't take up too much time. In fact, their storyline actually made forward progress.
Kurt Angle has the tough duty of making Mr. Anderson look like a star. After seeing what he did with Desmond Wolfe, I have faith in the man.
Speaking of Desmond Wolfe, it's a shame he didn't get to wrestle the Pope but at least TNA actually acknowledged it. I enjoyed their involvement at the end as it sets up possible alliances with Flair, Styles, and Sting. If not, I'm still looking forward to their match as well.
Destination X will likely be forgotten as a great PPV. The hype hasn't been great but the card looks solid. March 8th was a much better show than January 4th and while there's still a long ways to go before TNA is a viable threat to the WWE, this was a great start.
