Cleveland Browns Need Secondary with Boldin and Maybe Owens Coming to AFC North
Now that the Baltimore Ravens have overhauled their wide receiver group with the additions of both Anquan Boldin and Donte' Stallworth, the Cleveland Browns really need to give their secondary as much help as they can in the offseason.
Boldin is the No. 1 receiver the Ravens have lacked for quarterback Joe Flacco the past two seasons, and if the Browns thought that Flacco was a dangerous young quarterback before, now they really need to worry.
The Browns' secondary hasn't been good for several seasons, and both Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert agreed that rebuilding the secondary is a priority this offseason.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Both noted that only cornerback Eric Wright, safety Abram Elam and backup Mike Adams were the only bright spots in their defensive backfield, which is now in a division that has gotten stronger at the receiver position.
Currently, the Browns secondary has to face a top-notch receiver who is on each of their divisional rivals including: Boldin, the Steelers' Santonio Holmes, and the Benglas' Chad Ochocinco.
Plus, there are also rumors abound that the Bengals are looking to pursue free agent receiver Terrell Owens, and once paired with Ochocinco, is a scary thought.
Cornerback Wright will have his hands full in 2010 with all the new talent in the division, but a pressing need is still across the field in the starting cornerback spot on the opposite side of the defense.
Wright may be able to shutdown the No. 1 receiver, but without another competent starter, divisional rivals and other opponents will still focus on throwing away from Wright.
Yes, adding a safety like Tennessee's Eric Berry will provide an instant impact on the defense, but picking a player like Berry at No. 7 will not help in covering the other starting receiver of the opposing teams.
Florida cornerback Joe Haden disappointed at the combine with his speed and he may not be the pick at No. 7 either, but he can also redeem himself at his Pro Day workouts.
There is always the possibility that the Browns may find a trade partner and move down into the middle of the first round.
If they did trade down, then who knows which player will be picked, especially with the team releasing offensive lineman Hank Fraley and letting lineman Rex Hadnot test free agency.
The Browns have three major needs right now which is making a decision at quarterback (obviously), adding to the right side of the offensive line and getting a starting safety, cornerback and adding depth in the defensive backfield.
Being in a division were the receiving talent has now increased and could still with a possible addition of Owens, the Browns face the choice of going offensive line or secondary in the first few rounds of the draft and this choice is as important as choosing a quarterback of the future.
