Cleveland Cavaliers Star Lebron James More Hype Then Hope For NBA.com!
NBA.com has published an article recently listing the top basketball players of all time. I was both shocked and amazed by their list and their reasoning.
NBA.com list is Wilt Chamberlain in first followed closely by LeBron James and Michael Jordan a distant third. They also stated within two years LeBron will be number one on their list. They believe LeBron is better then Jordan.......? Am I the only one who has a problem with this.
NBA.com runs an article entitled:
No further evidence needed: LeBron is our No. 1
Which proceeds to praise LeBron for his razor sharp play against the Lakers. At points they make it sound like LeBron defeated the Lakers single handed. They make a point to state Cleveland has won 8 of the last 10 meeting against the Lakers.
Reading this article made my mouth drop and a sarcastic smile to arrive on my face at the same time. The writer of the article Frank Hughes made me realize there are sports journalists who have no idea what they are talking about and should turn in their sports passes for something more fitting like judging spelling bee's or teaching English in High School.
Hughes has praised LeBron as MVP for the same things he criticized Kobe for in the past. Lets put his claims into prospective.
Mr. Hughes why do you not make mention that last year Cleveland lost both meetings to the Lakers during the regular season. How about mentioning that the Lakers were the only team to beat Cleveland at home during the regular season until the final game before the playoffs? Atlanta won because LeBron was benched most of the game to prep for the playoffs. Why is it that you fail to mention that Cleveland has failed time and time again to make the finals and when they did make it were swept out by San Antonio? Mr. Hughes do you understand the MVP race is about team play as well as individual!
To quote you Mr. Hughes!
"Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum are spry young men, while Shaquille O'Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskus are creaky old geezers. Really-well-paid old geezers, but in the twilights of their careers nonetheless.
There is not really another player in the league like Lamar Odom, whose size and versatility make him unique. And Ron Artest, while kooky, remains a lock-down defender on most nights.
But LeBron's presence is so overpowering that he wills the Cavs to victory, as he did Thursday night against the Lakers, a 93-87 win in which James had 37, nine assists, five rebounds and a block, playing even better than he did when the Cavaliers defeated L.A. 102-87 on Christmas Day."
As I, and everyone I talk to, read this article I see you basically stating Lebron has to pick up the slack for creeky old geezers who are well paid, (in reference to O'Neal and Ilgauskus). You put so much emphasis on LeBron you fail to note the hard work presented by players such as Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao and several players off the bench. It is obvious if you even watch Basketball you focus so much on LeBron you fail to see the numerous 3 point buzzer beaters Kobe has this season alone.
You fail to see Kevin Durant of the Thunder leading his team into playoff contention. A remarkable feat since they finished 23-59 last year. No you are to busy wanting to know what brand of toilet paper or face cream LeBron uses.
But more than that I will give you one reason why LeBron does not deserve the MVP this year or ever again.
The MVP is as much about being generous and unselfish as it is about being mean and competitive on the floor. This is defined as Sportsmanship. However; when you lose to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals you line up like a man a congratulate the other team. You don't stomp your feet throw a temper tantrum and storm off the court. You don't shower quickly get on the team bus and refuse to talk to your teammates, coaches and press. Guess what Mr. Hughes and LeBron fans around the world, if LeBron were in kindergarten he would be given a time out and put in the corner until he could learn some manners. But he is not in Kindergarten, he is in the NBA and represents the game I love. LeBron has always been my second choice for best player. I think I will choose a fifth grader out of little league as a better player. At least they understand the concept of the game.
I call unsportsmanlike conduct and fine LeBron no more MVP's until he apologizes to the world for his actions. But the NBA and Kobe Haters will not make him responsible for his actions. They will give him more MVP's and continue to play him up while he remain title less. Kobe will just have to settle for 3 or 4 more rings, still be the top Jersey seller in the U.S, and one of the top sports figures in sports even with people like Mr. Hughes slinging dirt about him.
Mr. Hughes I know what you are thinking. Its because Califonia is the most populated state and everyone is rich that is why he is the biggest seller. Then explain why his Jersey is the biggest seller in China, Russia, England, Austraila, Etc. Mr. Hughes if it were not for Kobe you may not even have a job doing crappy reporting for NBA.com.
Unfortunately it is not just people like Hughes that lend credibility to my theory. It is evident in the games Cleveland plays. They are faced with a sub par Eastern Conference and win facing teams like the Nets and Knicks. But lose to Orlando and Boston. Its easy to have long win streaks when every game you face a below .400 team which accounts for over half the Eastern conference. When they come to the west where only 5 teams are below .500 you have issues. How about the fact LeBron will easily foul a player and the ref's do not call it. But are quick to call a technical on the player when he stands his ground.
The point behind this is simple. LeBron is being more hyped up then any other player. However; has lead the Eastern Conference every year and then is destroyed by, what most sports journalists write as, sub par teams in the playoffs.
You may ask, "Why is this Doc"? and all I can do is shrug and give you a puzzled look.
