England-Bangladesh: Kieswetter Ton Sets Up England White-Wash

David MoulsonMar 5, 2010

Craig Kieswetter's maiden International Century gave England a 3-0 lead and the series against Bangladesh in Chittagong. This was a comfortable win, by 45 runs.

Shakib-Al-Hasan won the toss and put England into bat first.

A partnership of 59 before the first wicket fell got England off to the best possible start before Alastair Cook fell for 32, falling to his counterpart, Shakib.

All the England batsmen got in before departing the crease, but it was Kieswetter that took on the attack and made the runs.

Pietersen (22) and Collingwood (36) were the next wickets to fall, off the bowling of Razzaq and Shuvu, respectively.

Kieswetter finally departed for 107 off 124 balls. This included nine fours and three sixes—he was bowled by Razzaq. It was innings of high standards and one I'm sure he will never forget.

Eoin Morgan fell for 36 after his century in the last game. He fell off the bowling of Shafiul and his innings lasted just 29 balls.

This brought Luke Wright to the crease, who hit 32 off just 13 balls, smashing two fours and two sixes. He had good support from Tim Bresnan, who hit six off three balls.

England's innings closed on 284-5 off their 50 overs.

Bangladesh's reply got off to the worst possible start, losing the wicket of Iqbal for zero in the first over to the bowling of Shahzad.

All Bangladesh's batsmen got in, but none of them took the attack away from England.

Kayes (17), Aftab (46), Rahim (40), Shakib (38), Mahmudullah (33), Naeem (18), Shuvo (11), and Razzaq (17*) all got starts before perishing with Razzaq unbeaten at the end.

Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan was the pick of the England bowlers. He recorded figures of 4-28 off nine overs. He had good support from Graeme Swann and Kevin Pietersen who took 2-38 and 1-36, respectively.

But the day was handed to Kieswetter. The Somerset batsmen told BBC Radio Five Live, "The first matches I went out a bit too hard too early, in this one I tried to pace my innings and set myself up for a big total."

"It was more of a grafting, hardworking hundred instead of a blazing century."

Alastair Cook, England's captain, said about Kieswetter's ton, "He played a very sensible innings, probably slightly different from the way he normally plays, but you have to adapt in international cricket and someone who can do that in their third game has got a lot about them."
