The Rock: Just Another Sell-Out, Part Two

John BetschelMar 4, 2010

I recently wrote an article about The Rock being a sell—out and how he turned his back on the wrestling business and so on and so forth.

And boy did I get a lot of people commenting telling me I was wrong, calling me a "smark" (whatever the heck that is) and someone went even as far to say "screw you".

If I may quote a line from Family Guy, "though I may not like your opinion sir but I shall fight to the death your right to say it".

Now, some things I may have been right and some things I could be wrong, but that's why I labeled the article an "OPINION". I stand by pretty much everything I said.

I have absolutely nothing against Dwayne Johnson the wrestler and I loved The Rock, as he used to be one of my favorite superstars. I think that no one past, present or future can touch him on the mic.

But, to say that The Rock spent his entire life wrestling? Not a chance! The Rock started wrestling in 1996, wrestled all the way up to 2003 and made a few appearances in 2004 when he had his last match. That's eight years max, which is obviously not even close to his whole life.

Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, HHH, Bret Hart, Kevin Nash, I could go on and on, these are examples of people who have wrestled their whole life. These are the guys who have put their body on the line for the love of this business.

And like one person said, The Rock has had more injuries doing movies than he did wrestling.

And for the person who said I don't know what a sell—out is, a sell—out is a person who betrays a cause or an organization.

The Rock I feel and believe did exactly that. I mean you have plenty of other wrestlers who could go out and do other things. HHH, for example, I guarantee could go out and do movies, and I still believe and stick by when I said John Cena could as well.

And everyone said John Cena's movies sucked. Well I partly agree, The Marine sucked, but I thought 12 Rounds was a good movie.

And I know what your thinking, "Why would HHH go out and do movies when he is pretty much running the company/" and your right. But, the point is if he wanted to leave wrestling and do movies he could.

And I'm not hating on The Rock for leaving to do movies. It's the Disney movies that pissed me off. Saying that he used the WWE for a stepping stone, maybe that was a little harsh and I could be wrong.

But, using his daughter as an excuse to do Disney movies, I don't buy that. If he left the WWE to make more money and he is such a good actor, why not go big time and do real movies with real actors, like he did in Be Cool?

I'm sure he gets all kinds of different movie offers and if he does, then that tells me he's soft. If he doesn't, then that tells me he is not that good of an actor and should therefore go back to wrestling.

But, I would like to end this article by saying that I agree, wrestling does need Dwayne Johnson and Dwayne Johnson does not need wrestling. And although I may not like it, I have to live with it.
