2010 NFL Mock Draft: Post Combine, Version 2

Sutton ShirleyMar 4, 2010

The college football season has been complete for nearly two months now, and the NFL season for almost a month. The consensus No. 1 pick was Ndamukong Suh originally, but now some are wavering. Without further ado, here is my second mock draft, but probably not my last.

2010 NFL Draft:

1.) St Louis Rams select Sam Bradford:

Despite the injury, Bradford is the best quarterback in this draft. It seems the Rams are reluctant to pay No. 1 money to a defensive tackle, and they seem hell-bent on picking a quarterback or trading the pick. If Josh Johnson is the only thing holding the Bucs back from making that trade, then they are stupid. If they want Suh that bad, then give up your second/third string quarterback and show some confidence in Josh Freeman.

2.) Detroit Lions select Gerald McCoy:

I like Suh better, but I think the Lions are higher on McCoy. McCoy and Suh are both stud, can't-miss prospects, but Suh has had two knee surgeries, which can scare teams away sometimes. Either way, as long as the Lions pick a defensive tackle, they can't screw this up.

3.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Ndamukong Suh:

The Bucs reluctance to trade up with the Rams may be based on the chance of Suh/McCoy falling to them at the third pick anyway. If both Suh and McCoy are off the boards, it will be hard for Raheem Morris to pass on safety Eric Berry. If McCoy is the tackle to fall to them, it will be interesting to see how hard Morris (a former defensive back), will push for Berry.

4.) Washington Redskins select Russell Okung:

Okung is the consensus top offensive tackle amongst the experts, and would be a good pick to replace incumbent Chris Samuels, who is considering retirement. Shannahan is going to run an offense similar to the one he ran in Denver, and since Bradford is off the board, I see them taking Okung to anchor Jason Campbell's blindside. If Bradford slips, he's definitely the pick though.

5.) Kansas City Chiefs select Jimmy Clausen:

The Chiefs could go several different directions with this pick, including taking an offensive tackle or Eric Berry. I think they are going to try and find a trade partner for Matt Cassel and reunite Jimmy Clausen with college coach Charlie Weis. Look for Buffalo, Carolina, and Cleveland as potential trade spots for Cassel.

6.) Seattle Seahawks select Trent Williams:

The Seahawks have plenty of needs, but Williams is the best value at this pick. He would be the replacement for Walter Jones, whenever he chooses to retire, and will be able to help protect Matt Hasselbeck in order to perhaps get a couple more decent years out of the ageing QB.

7.) Cleveland Browns select Eric Berry:

The Browns are abysmal on the offensive side of the ball, so there will be pressure for them to take an offensive player. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson are both average on a good day, and outside of Joe Cribbs, the team has no explosiveness to speak of. If Bradford or Clausen falls to this pick it might be tempting, as will offensive talents Dez Bryant and C.J. Spiller, but Eric Berry is a starter from Day One and will be for the next 10-12 years.

8.) Oakland Raiders select Bruce Campbell:

After the combine, this pick is down to three guys: Campbell, Taylor Mays or C.J. Spiller. Spiller is the most exciting offensive player in the draft, but the Raiders already have Darren McFadden. Mays is an absolute freak and could be a great player in the NFL, and could easily be the pick here.

I think Al Davis will be more intrigued with Campbell though. Hands down, he's the most athletic offensive lineman in the draft and has all the tools to be great. This pick actually fills a need and might work out for Ol' Al.

9.) Buffalo Bills select Bryan Bulaga:

Chan Gailey has his hands full up there in Buffalo. The cupboard isn't completely bare, but none of the pieces seem to fit together. A good offensive line can help any offense turn things around, and Bulaga will do just that. He's my No. 1 rated offensive tackle, even ahead of Okung.

Against Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl, Bulaga threw top-rated defensive end Derrick Morgan all over the field. He's a great run blocker, a good pass blocker and is tough as nails. This would be a slam dunk pick for the Bills.

10.) Jacksonville Jaguars select Derrick Morgan:

The Jaguars have tried twice in recent history to draft a decent pass rusher, and both have underperformed so far. Morgan will not. He's the No. 1 defensive end in the draft and is a guy who will stay on the field for three downs. He has a very good bull rush and a super quick spin move that will allow him to make plays in the backfield consistently.

11.) Denver Broncos select Rolando McClain:

McClain would give the Broncos an interior presence that would equal Elvis Dummervil's presence on the outside. McClain is a football genius and has made plays throughout his career. He'd be the quarterback of the Bronco's defense for the next decade if they take him.

12.) Miami Dolphins select Dan Williams:

The Dolphins will be tempted to take Spiller or Bryant with this pick, but it's Bill Parcells.  He's not taking a skill position guy in the first round. Williams did an excellent job last season at Tennessee occupying blockers and opening up room for other guys. He would play noseguard for the Fins and should be an immediate contributor.

Parcells will think about Alabama's Mt. Cody and UCLA's Brian Price here as well.

13.) San Francisco 49ers select Joe Haden:

Haden was a top-10 pick in most mock drafts, but that was before he ran a disappointing 40 time at the combine. Despite what he ran, he's still the No. 1 cornerback in the draft, with good ball skills and decent size as well. The 'Niners have more pressing needs, but Haden is too good to pass up on in my opinion.

14.) Seattle Seahawks select C.J. Spiller:

Using both picks on offense will be a slight surprise, but both Williams and Spiller would both fill pressing needs. Spiller would give Pete Carroll a West Coast version of Chris Johnson, and Carroll is definitely accustom to having speedy playmakers at the skill positions. Spiller is a near-perfect fit.

15.) New York Giants select Dez Bryant:

Bryant is a top-five talent that the Giants couldn't let slip any further. They spent their first round pick last year on a wide receiver, and Hakeem Nicks played well, but Nicks isn't the playmaker that Bryant is. I can promise you one thing: Eli Manning wouldn't mind having Bryant to throw the ball up to.

16.) Tennessee Titans select Jason Pierre-Paul:

The Titans were playing well at the end of last season, and are really a pretty solid team. They need an upgrade at wide receiver, but no one left is worth picking this high if Bryant is off the board. Pierre-Paul gives them a workout warrior who is athletically off the charts. He could end up being a great pass rushing defensive end or an OLB in a 3-4 defense.

17.) San Francisco 49ers select Anthony Davis:

The '49ers would be ecstatic if they landed Davis with their second first-round pick.  He's the No. 2 tackle in some expert's opinions, and has natural instincts that are hard to find. Davis would upgrade the 'Niners line as soon as he stepped on the field.

18.) Pittsburgh Steelers select Mike Iupati:

He's the best player available at this point and definitely fills a need. He'd probably be a versatile backup his first season, but could easily move into the starting lineup at either guard spot and possibly center or right tackle if needed. Iupati is a hard nosed player who fits the Steelers mold.

19.) Atlanta Falcons select Taylor Mays:

The Falcons need to add speed in the back seven of their defense, and Mays would do that. Whether he would play safety or OLB would be up in the air, but either way he would fill a need. His playmaking skills and ability to help in run support would be invaluable for this defense.

20.) Houston Texans select Earl Thomas:

The Texans won't have Dunta Robinson in their secondary next season, and Earl Thomas could help fill his shoes. The two play different positions, but Thomas would bring a playmaking attitude to this defense's back four.  He's also a hometown kid who would probably help ticket and jersey sales.

21.) Cincinatti Bengals select Golden Tate

22.) New England Patriots select Sergio Kindle

23.) Green Bay Packers select Brandon Graham

24.) Philadelphia Eagles select Carlos Dunlap

25.) Baltimore Ravens select Demaryius Thomas

26.) Arizona Cardinals select Maurkice Pouncey

27.) Dallas Cowboys select Terrance Cody

28.) San Diego Chargers select Ryan Matthews

29.) New York Jets select Arrellious Benn

30.) Minnesota Vikings select Jared Odrick

31.) Indianapolis Coltst select Kyle Wilson

32.) New Orleans Saints select Chad Jones
