MMA's Pat Miletich and Painless Dentistry
Pat Miletich has long been a famous name in the sport of MMA.
He has competed in the sport, coached and cornered others in the sport, and has one of the most famous gyms where fighters go to train.
Bettendorf, Iowa, has become famous as a hot spot for training champions because of Pat's gym and the champions he has trained there. Among these elite fighters are Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia, and my Facebook pal, Jens Pulver.
At the present time Pat does commentary for the sport and has buried the hatchet with the UFC. He's now on speaking terms with big boss Dana White—at least so I have read.
Most fortunately, at least for this MMA fan, is the fact that Pat Miletich also has an interest in playing golf and has previously played with my dentist, Dr. Duncan.
Being an advocate and would-be MMA sportswriter, I try to promote the sport in every interaction of my rather limited life. As I have mentioned, I suffer with multiple sclerosis and am somewhat agoraphobic, so doctor and dental appointments are about the only occasions that cause me to leave the safety of my home.
It just so happened that Tuesday was one of those occasions and I met Dr. Duncan to have a crown removed so a cavity that had developed underneath could be treated. (Since Dr. Duncan did not do the original crown work, I have nothing at all against him, though I readily admit, I have no other friends who are dentists.)
Well, my husband paved the way for a better relationship to develop by making our dentist aware of my passion for all thing which are MMA, and conveniently, this dentist knows Pat Miletich, for whom I have a great deal of respect, though not for his one time protege Matt Hughes, as my former readers will doubtlessly remember.
So while the dentist repaired my tooth, he kept me mesmerized with tales of playing golf with Mr. Miletich and MMA gossip he has picked up through their association.
I can honestly say that no dental appointment has ever gone that quickly or smoothly for me. No worries, no pain, and I felt like I had converted another person to watching MMA in the future, if for no other reason than to witness the shocking dental emergencies which will doubtlessly occur.
Dr. Duncan also confessed to being the dental specialist, a few years back, who attended to all dental emergencies at the Peoria Rivermen ice hockey games. Since my youngest grandson got his name from my daughter-in-law's love for a former Rivermen captain, Trevor Baker, this also endeared Dr. Duncan to me.
As if that was not enough, two of the dental group's female personnel are relatives of "The" Diego Sanchez that my grandson Kodi so adores! Can life get any better than this? I don't think it can, although we could hardly stop discussing Diego's fight with BJ Penn long enough to get out the door.
Learning that I do not have to attend fights to meet other fans has really done a lot to brightened my outlook on life.
And my teeth will be better off now, too!
