Dear Tony Dungy: The Time Has Come to Butt Out of the Colts' Business
It's three days away from the big game—the game that is going to raise the roof and leave one team with heartache that will take an eternity to overcome. Newly appointed head coach Jim Caldwell is well aware of the stipulations, and Sean Payton's heart is racing as he has the opportunity to lead the once labelled "Aints" to a Super Bowl victory that New Orleans has never experienced.
Tony Dungy on the other hand, well he's just sitting in the stands watching. Watching and waiting, and at the same time adding in the slightest amount of input to try and stabilize Indianapolis leading up to Super Bowl XLIV.

Now with over a year under his belt from originally stepping down from the Colts head coaching position, Dungy has been cited filling the void in NBC's commentary team, where I must say he has done a stand up job.
Following his new found television career, Dungy acted as a mentor to rehabilitated Michael Vick over the offseason and basically guided the once mislead quarterback into a worthy second string fill-in role on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now that the regular season is through with, and Vick is firm on his feet, Dungy seems to enjoy adding his two cents into the Colts organization. Fair enough, he led the Colts to a Super Bowl, and numerous AFC Playoff spots, but does that give Dungy the right to dip into the Colts future?
Before I can even answer that question, Dungy has given the answer to another. After being asked recently on the Colts' chance in Miami against the Saints and a possible last minute come back, Dungy replied with an answer of "The Saints won't be able to do enough to force the Colts into needing a final last minute drive."
Dungy has always been a well spoken man. A man that has voiced his opinion through various forms of humor, opinion, and facts. With that said, Dungy was the head coach back in those days, and he was allowed to voice his opinion in any way possible.
Now he is merely a spectator, a fan, and instead of sitting back and retiring happily, Dungy still feels that his heart is with the Colts organization.
God bless him, he has a love for the game, but did we see Bill Cowher throw in his input when the Steelers made the Super Bowl last season? I think not.
For the Colts fans out there, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a look of disgust on your face and a nasty comment brewing within your mind. I'm not criticising Dungy, hell I'm not even trying to shine the spotlight on him, I'm just asking the simple question of why Dungy feels the need to butt in.
It's no longer his team, Peyton is no longer his quarterback, and in reality Dungy isn't a professional mentor at all. Add your two cents Dungy, but do it wisely. You may be eating your words before the day is over.
To quote Bob Dylan "The times they are a' changing." For Dungy, that is the harsh reality that he needs to face.
