Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens Rumble for Second Time This Year

Kevin BurkeJan 15, 2010

Who: Baltimore Ravens (10-7, Wild Card) @ Indianapolis Colts (14-2, AFC South Champions)

When: Saturday, Jan. 16, 8:15 p.m. CBS

Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana

Line: Indianapolis by 6.5

Why Watch: The Ravens flat out dominated the Patriots last week 33-14, handing New England their first home playoff loss since 1978. Their gift is to travel to Indianapolis to face the best team in football record-wise.

In their win over New England, quarterback Joe Flacco only threw for 34 yards, but will definitely need more than that in order to beat the Colts. Then again, if the Ravens run for another 234 yards, he may not have to.

Ray Rice (pictured) led the onslaught with 159 yards and two touchdowns, including an 83-yard touchdown on the very first play of the game. Meanwhile, the defense has returned to its old form, holding the Patriots to only 196 yards, 132 of which were through the air.

The Ravens defense also forced Tom Brady and company into four turnovers, including three interceptions.

Baltimore will more than likely have to repeat their performance to knock off the Colts in Indianapolis. They won't have history on their side either as they have never won in Indianapolis.

It was another ho-hum year for the Colts, finishing with the NFL's best record at 14-2. Peyton Manning threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns, but did so without his main wide receiver of recent times in Marvin Harrison.

Instead, Manning relied on Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, both of whom recorded 1,110+ yards and 10 touchdowns. In addition, newcomers Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon tallied 11 combined touchdowns at the third receiver position.

Behind the exploits of Manning, the Colts boast the second-best passing offense in the league, but have the worst rushing offense in the league. The Colts haven't had much success on the ground all year, and that trend will likely continue against the stingy Raven defense.

The Colts defense has done enough to give Indianapolis their 14-2 record, but is not especially stellar in any statistical category. The defense was able to shut down Baltimore when the two teams met in week 11, which resulted in a 17-15 win for the Colts.

The Colts' starters haven't played since their early exit in their week 16 loss to New York. Many feel as though the Colts are too rusty to hang with a confident Baltimore team.

In addition, Peyton Manning has never won when he has had a first-round bye in the playoffs, losing all four times. Sure, it seems as though everything is against the Colts, but then again they were 14-2 this season right?

Prediction: Colts 21, Ravens 15
