Shanahan & Allen Chart a "new Direction" for Redskins
Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen told The John Thompson Show that Mike Shanahan and the assistant coaches will be intimately involved in all personnel decisions and that as a GM he has always preferred to give his coaches a lot of input into the personnel decisions.
Allen also said that the Redskins are heading in a "new direction" that will be charted by himself and Mike Shanahan. The clear indication is that Snyder has decided to go this way and that he will not be intruding into football decisions that are properly made by professionals like Allen and Shanny.
"We're going to have a much more disciplined program and everyone's going to buy in," Allen said in response to a question from Rick "Doc" Walker about going 0-6 in the NFC East and players not showing up to training camp ready to play NFL football.

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Talking to Comcast Sports, Bruce Allen responded to a question about his offseason relationship with Mike Shanahan by saying the two discussed tactics and new developments around the league. He didn't indicate if or when the two began discussing running the Washington Redskins together.
Asked about football authority, Allen said every NFL head coach must have control over his roster and that he wouldn't force players upon Shanahan if he didn't want them. He did say, however, that there would be "debate" about personnel and that he thinks that's a good thing.
Talking to Comcast Sports soon after the presser, Shanahan said he and Bruce Allen were not a "package deal," with hiring one essentially meaning hiring both. He said it is rare to get a chance to coach for a team that cares only about winning a Super Bowl and that's why he came to D.C. [I suspect that $7 million per year had something to do with it, too.]
