Exclusive Interview With Denis Kang

Alireza FadaieDec 27, 2009

Revolution Fight Team was a host of another great seminar with UFC fighter and Canadian MMA veteran, Denis Kang. Denis has been a long time prodigy of MMA in Canada with years of experience in organization such as Pride.

Denis Kang was at Revolution Fight Team new academy location at Langley Bypass to share his wealth of experience with young fighters. Seminar started from simple but very effective counters to the jab and continued with take down and ground fighting techniques. All the demonstrated techniques were Denis’s own favourite techniques and he spent time with every single person at his seminar to correct their techniques.

Anyone who still questions the legitimacy of MMA or thinks the sport is just bad for the society should meet fighters like Denis Kang. He was so humble and approachable and was making sure everybody was having a good time at his seminar.

I have to thank another Canadian MMA veteran, Bill Mahood for hosting this great seminar. After the training I had an opportunity to have a nice and short interview with Denis Kang:

1-     Denis your performance so far at UFC ha not been what your fans including myself had expected from you. Why is that?

Since I have been unable to train at ATT, I have noticed my training decline slightly. Now that I am able to go back I think that it will change in time.

2-     How has been your experience, fighting at Japan and Korea and how do you compare it with fighting at UFC?

Fighting in Japan/Korea was great, and I hope that I can do it again some day. Now the UFC is a different world. The sport has grown so much and is getting a lot of recognition.

3-     Most people were expecting an easy win against Bisping? What happened that night?

Now that I have had time to reflect on it, I can see that I was grossly over trained for this fight. Because I took this fight so seriously, I intensified my training which led me to overload my body/system. I felt sluggish and tired in the fight.

4-     You have been fighting for a long time. How has MMA changed over these years?

I remember when the word "MMA" didn’t even exist; it was simply called NHB or extreme fighting. It's great to see the sport evolve and leading into new generations of young fighters.

5-     What are your plans for future and do you like to open your own gym after retirement?

I want to take it one fight at a time. I do plan to open up a gym in the future, possibly in my favourite city...Vancouver.
