Which WWE/TNA Stars Made the Biggest Impact in 2009?

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 27, 2009

2009 was at best a decent year in wrestling.  I personally have been a little disappointed with some aspects of certain companies, but there were certainly many great moments with many superstars in 2009.

So what superstar made the biggest Impact in the past year?

On WWE Raw, I think many people would say Randy Orton.  He has cemented himself into the fabric of WWE over the past year for many different reasons.

In 2009 Orton won the WWE Championship on three separate occasions.  He played the role of a heel champion to perfection with his frequent sneak attacks and using his teammates to do his dirty work for him.

Orton was engaged in a feud that has been controversial.  Orton vs. Cena has happened so many times that many people began to complain that there was no originality in the feud anymore.

However, Orton still pulled off every promo, every sneak attack, and every match like a pro.

In my mind, and I'm sure there are people on both sides of this one, Orton was the Superstar of the Year without a doubt.

On ECW, I don't know how to go with this one.  Christian had the biggest year of anyone on ECW, but Tommy Dreamer also won his only ECW title while with the WWE version and he also announced his leaving of the company.  So both men had a huge year in terms of headlines.

Christian has carried the ECW brand since coming out and trash-talking with Jack Swagger on the night of his return.  Christian is the only two-time ECW champion since the re-imaging of ECW by Vince McMahon.

Tommy Dreamer had been notorious for being the backbone of ECW while only ever having won the prize once for a total of 37 minutes.  So, needless to say, his reign meant a lot to some original ECW fans.

Tommy leaving the WWE comes as a surprise to many, and some are saying he may be making the move to TNA.  I don't know if I see Tommy in TNA, but I do wish him well in whatever he does.

On Smackdown, the biggest impact was made by Jeff Hardy.  This guy went from never having a chance to being a three-time champ.  He was on top of the world when he won his first WWE title by beating HHH and Edge.

His two World Heavyweight championships were a little less than pleasant for Jeff.  He held his second title for less than 10 minutes, and his third title was lost in a retirement match, so he didn't have the best of luck.

The biggest surprise to anyone was when Jeff announced he was taking a break from wrestling while at the top of his game and the top of the WWE.  He had victories over everybody from Edge to the Undertaker to CM Punk to his own brother Matt.

Some are saying that when he comes back he will be better than ever because he will be healthier, healed, and his return will certainly be one of the most awaited in awhile.

His "break" has been compared to Chris Jericho. He left to pursue acting and music, and when he returned he was better than ever. Jeff is one guy who is missed by just about every WWE fan.

In TNA, the biggest Impact could go three ways. AJ Styles has been the glue that holds TNA together for a long time, and this year he shot back to the top by winning the TNA championship.

Nigel, sorry, Desmond Wolfe made a huge splash by taking the fight right to Kurt Angle, one of the best in the world.  He has been featured prominently in TNA since he signed with them after being denied the contract WWE offered him.

Hulk Hogan has been the main source of TNA news for a little while.  His signing is supposed to bring TNA into the fight with WWE that Dixie and Jeff have been waiting for.  Time will tell.

In TNA, my personal choice would be AJ Styles, but I'm sure some would disagree.

Who do you guys think made the biggest Impact in 2009?
