We've already taken a look at the decade for the ACC Coastal Division teams.
Now let's check out the decade for the Atlantic Division teams.
Atlantic Division
Clemson Tigers
The Tigers began the decade with a new head coach Tommy Bowden who came to Clemson in 1999 hoping to bring Clemson back to its glory days under Danny Ford. While Bowden brought some great highs to Clemson, the Tigers were noted for their inconsistency. Dabo Swinney took over as Clemson head coach in 2008, and this year the Tigers won their first ACC Division title.
Decade Highlight Game: January 2, 2004
Clemson knocked off the No. 7 ranked Tennessee Volunteers in the season-ending Chick-fil-A Bowl. It was the culmination of three-straight victories that included the Tigers beating the Florida State Seminoles and in-state rival, the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Decade Lowlight Game: November 13, 2004
A week after defeating the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes, the Tigers lost 16-13 to the Duke Blue Devils. That loss epitomized the inconsistency of the Tigers during the Bowden years.
At the start of the decade the Seminoles absolutely owned the ACC. They were at the end of a more than decade long run of top five finishes. Ten years later Bobby Bowden will be coaching his last game at Florida State in this year's Gator Bowl. Jimbo Fisher will take over, in hopes of reestablishing Florida State as one of the nation's premier programs.
Decade Highlight Game: November 18, 2000
The Seminoles hammered Steve Spurrier's fourth-ranked Florida Gators 30-7. The win put Florida State in the national title game.
Decade Lowlight Game: November 12, 2006
To this day, I'm convinced I saw the Florida State Seminoles quit on this day. A 30-0 loss in Tallahassee to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, was the 'Noles' first time being shutout at home in Bobby Bowden's previous 31 seasons.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The Demon Deacons proved through the last few years that with solid coaching and disciplined play you can change the football culture of an entire university. From 1993 to 2000 Wake Forest head coach Jim Caldwell won less than 30 percent of his games. Then Jim Grobe came in 2001, winning an ACC Championship in 2006 and Wake Forest has been a fairly consistent bowl team ever since.
Decade Highlight Game: December 2, 2006
A hard-fought 9-6 victory over Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship sent Wake Forest to the Orange Bowl, giving hope to every ACC team that it yes it can be done.
Decade Lowlight Game: August 31, 2000
Losing 20-16 to I-AA school Appalachian State proved just how far Wake Forest had to go. Jim Caldwell would be let go, making the way for Jim Grobe in 2001.
North Carolina State Wolfpack
Chuck Amato came from Florida State in 2000 to NC State and brought with him a Florida recruiting base. Amato averaged more than eight wins a season in his first four years, but a 3-9 finish in 2006 led to the hiring of former Boston College coach Tom O' Brien. So far O'Brien has yet to put together a winning season at NC State.
Decade Highlight Game: January 1, 2003
The Wolfpack started the year 8-0, and finished with an 11-3 record. With Phillip Rivers at quarterback the Wolfpack defeated the Notre Dame fighting Irish 28-6 in the Gator Bowl in Chuck Amato's finest hour.
Decade Lowlight Game: November 25, 2006
There isn't any shame losing East Carolina. The Pirates are a pretty decent program. This 21-16 loss to East Carolina, though, completed a rough 3-9 season and signaled the end of Amato at NC State.
When Ralph Freidgen came to Maryland in 2001, he led the Terps to success they had not seen since the Bobby Ross was there in the mid 80s. Freidgen won 31 games in his first three years at Maryland. However, the Terps could not maintain that level of success. In 2009 Maryland went 2-9 leaving in doubt how many more years Freidgen will remain at Maryland.
Decade Highlight Game: December 31, 2002
A 30-3 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers in the Chick-fil-A Bowl was the Terps' first bowl victory since 1985 and the height of Freidgen's coaching career at Maryland.
Decade Lowlight Game: September 5, 2009
The 2-9 2009 season started with a 52-13 shellacking at the hands of the California Bears. It wasn't just that the Terps lost, it also proved how far they had fallen since the early part of the decade.
Boston College joined the ACC in 2005 and have more than held their own. They've been a consistent winner, appearing in two ACC Championship games and featured one of the best players in ACC this decade, quarterback Matt Ryan.
Decade Highlight Game: October 25, 2007
Facing a Top 10 Virginia Tech team in Blacksburg on a Thursday night isn't exactly a recipe for success. Ryan led the Eagles to two scores in the final minutes to steal the unlikely victory. It was Ryan at his best.
Decade Lowlight Game: December 31, 2008
The Eagles were coming off a 30-12 loss in the ACC Championship game to Virginia Tech, and relegated to the Music City Bowl to face the Vanderbilt Commodores. It was a game the Eagles probably didn't want to be in and they played like it, losing 16-14. It was Vanderbilt's first bowl victory since 1955.
