Don't Worry, Texas Fans, Alabama Won't Embarrass You Too Badly
Okay Texas fans, by now you've already accepted the upcoming loss in the BCS Championship Game. Sure it will be on national television and the networks will play up the pregame hype, making it look like it will be a close contest. Millions of viewers will be drawn in. But in your hearts, you've already pictured the Tide beat down and accepted it.
But take heart, because Nick Saban has one. Mack Brown will see by the early in the second half that the game is over, and by then so will Nick Saban.
Say what you will about Saban, but he is a gentleman and a friend. He counts Mack Brown as a friend, as well as coach in waiting Will Muschamp. You can count on Saban to pull back the horses before it gets too ugly.
After all, Saban's process is to win and dominate, not to humiliate. You can expect one of those games that people won't see as embarrassing when they see the score, but it will be a game of total domination.
Texas' offense is tailor made for the Tide defense to dominate. No one runs on Alabama and Colt McCoy can't escape the pressure for big runs either. He hasn't seen a pass rush like the Tide's, and Alabama's secondary will have some fun with passes on the run.
Cody and company will seal the middle, and the linebackers will make sure nobody makes it around a corner.
Shutting down Shipley won't be easy, but Nebraska proved that it is do-able. And McCoy won't know which to fear more, Arenas in a blitz, or in coverage.
Texas' defense, or more precisely, the lack thereof, will mean that Alabama can simply choose how to beat them, by ground or by air. Selling out to stop one or the other is like choosing to step out of the way of a bus and choosing to stop an armored car.
McElroy is back in the groove and by now everybody knows what Ingram can do. Throw in 2011's Heisman Trophy winner, Trent Richardson, Julio Jones snagging first downs, and Marquis Maze grabbing bombs, and you see the problem of trying to overload on just one player.
And let's not forget what Javier Arenas can do if you dare kick or punt in his direction, or what happens when you let Alabama inside the 40 yard line, an area Lee Tiffin refers to as his kill zone.
So Texas fans, take heart, enjoy the game by enjoying your snacks, or by enjoying the company of your friends. As long as you don't expect a win, you'll have a wonderful evening.
You'll see a great game and a good performance.
It just won't be your team doing it.
