Markov Scores Two, Halak Shuts out Iles
Andrei Markov scored two of Montreal's three-power play goals after missing more than two months with a lacerated tendon in the Canaiens' 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. When Markov suffered the injury in the season opener on October 1, he was not expected to return until after the Olympic Games.
Jaroslav Halak made 40 saves for his first shutout of the season to help Montreal (16-18-3) snap a five-game losing streak and start a seven-game trip with momentum.
The Russian's first goal of the season was the eventual game-inner, recording 3 shots on goal. The 30 shifts for Markov's were most on both teams and his 20:25 was third-most ice among skaters.
