Seahawks Fair Weather Followers Should Leave the Supporting to Real Fans
After Seattle’s 38-17 defeat against the Dallas Cowboys, Jim Mora came out with a quote, which carried a lot of weight.
“Adversity turns weak people into victims, and it turns strong people into competitors.” Never has a quote proved so accurate.
Looking at the Seahawk performances during this season, the general consensus is that the majority of the players have turned into victims. Make no mistake, 2009 has been a living nightmare for Mora and the team.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
However, these things go in cycles, especially since the introduction of the salary cap.
At some point, all teams will experience both the highs and the lows of the NFL. Yes, even the Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions, despite being perceived as polar opposites by the general public.
The Seahawks have had more than their fair share of ups and downs over the years, but they will improve again. Of more interest to me is how the fans are dealing with the current situation.
In fact, Jim Mora’s quote on adversity would appear to be perfect for describing the people who follow Seattle.
All you need to do is log online and go to the Seattle Times, Seattle PI, or any of the other Web sites that report on the Seahawks, and you will see evidence of this:
- Fire Jim Mora
- Bring Mike Holmgren back
- This is the worst Seahawks team ever
- I’m officially finished with them
- The team will be moving to L.A. soon if they don’t sort themselves out
You get the idea.
To me, this says a lot about the people that are coming out with these comments.
They are nothing more than fair weather fans spoiled by Seattle’s recent success.
OK, so the team has had a couple of sub-par seasons. Big deal. If you’re willing to give up on them after only two bad years, you’re not much of a fan.In fact, it’s pathetic.
Try supporting the Cleveland Browns or the Buffalo Bills. These teams have been suffering for a lot longer than the Seahawks.
Seattle went to the playoffs five straight seasons between 2003 and 2007. The Browns and Bills would kill for this type of success.
The comments about the team moving to L.A. are particularly irksome. Didn’t Seattle just get a new stadium in 2002? Isn’t Paul Allen still the owner? Doesn’t the team sell out every game?
Last time I checked, it is a lack of money coming in that plays a big part in any franchise being moved to another city. I know Paul Allen is ill at the moment, but whatever happens, he will make sure the team is looked after.
After what happened to the Sonics, there is no way that the real fans of the Seahawks would ever let the same scenario happen to their team. And that’s the key here.
For all of those fair weather fans moaning about the team from the safety of their basements, they could do with following the lead of the people who actually go to the games and support the team through thick and thin.
It’s called loyalty, something that real fans know something about.
