Minnesota Milestone: The New Goal for the Remainder of the Timberwolves' Season
After last night's win over Sacramento, the Timberwolves are 5-22. They are on pace to win 15 games. Not a fantastic goal record (15-67).
A few of statistics from their season so far:
- The Wolves started out 1-15. They are 4-7 since.
- The Wolves were 2-16 without Kevin Love. They are 3-5 with him.
- Combining those two "after" statistics, the Wolves are scheduled to win 24 more games, ending them at 29-53.
This seems like a logical way for the Wolves to finish. They are playing better at both ends of the court and defeating impressive teams on the road, like Denver and Utah.
The Wolves should have a new goal in mind at this rate: win 30 games.
A logical, realistic, and impressive goal for a team that can be considered both struggling and improving.
This is also a goal that will satisfy Timberwolves fans from the previous season. The Wolves were 24-58 last year, 22-60 the year before. The fans in Minnesota have seemed to have lost hope, but a 30-52 year will be a large improvement from years past.
The Timberwolves need improvement, 'cause the championship ain't exactly within reach.
The Wolves also need to stop rebuilding. They've rebuilt and rebuilt enough; now it's time to continue building.
Last year, the Wolves had a core of Al Jefferson, Love, Randy Foye, and Sebastian Telfair. Now they've got Jonny Flynn, Ramon Sessions, and Corey Brewer to incorporate while loosing Foye, Craig Smith, Telfair, and Rashad McCants. The Timberwolves basically started from scratch again this offseason, and now is the time to keep adding on.
So while the players need to focus on winning every night, the management needs to figure out ways to make the team win more.
In three years, will the starting lineup still include Ryan Gomes and Damien Wilkins?
Hopefully not.
David Kahn, try to get us some salary cap slots to sign a decent free agent. Trade Sessions for a starter, because that's what Sessions is. Get a high draft pick, and find Minnesota a future to believe in.
That's all the Wolves need. A reason to believe. Either more wins, or better players.
