Coco Crisp's Signing with San Diego Padres on Verge of Official
San Diego Padres general manager Jed Hoyer could be close to signing his first free agent of his tenure with the ball club.
MLB.com's Corey Brock reported early this morning that the Padres have had discussions with Crisp and his agent Steve Comte, and that there was interest from both sides.
"We have been talking to them. We see a real fit there, possibly," Comte told Brock, also acknowledging that there are concerns from other teams on Crisp's two offseason surgeries.

"It's a view we certainly looked at. We've got a host of teams who have approached us with that kind of mind-set. We understand what happened last year with the surgeries on both shoulders. And we understand it will impact his value today."
There's no indication whether the Padres are interested in Crisp for just one year or if they could possibly explore a two-year deal with the switch-hitting center fielder. Though according to MLBTradeRumors, via Twitter, Crisp preferred a one-year deal with either the Padres or the Oakland A's.
ESPN.com's Buster Olney, about a week ago, was under the impression that Crisp could sign a one-year deal worth between $3-$4 million.
The Royals, even after giving Crisp a $500,000 buyout, are said to be interested in bringing the outfielder back. Other teams that have interest are reportedly the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs.
