Tiger Woods Is Finally Making Some Intelligent Decisions
Several news outlets are now reporting that residents of Tiger Woods’ exclusive Isleworth Community have seen the world’s No. 1 player out hitting golf balls at night.
The residents claim that Woods has been coming home for therapy sessions with his wife, Elin, and then heading to the golf course to hit a large number of balls under the cover of darkness.
Well, it sounds like Woods may finally be making some intelligent decisions.
First, despite reports circulating about his impending divorce, he appears to be making at least some kind of an effort to save his marriage.
And second, he’s playing golf!
There are only two ways Tiger Woods will not eventually overcome this whole ordeal and get back to at least near where he was prior to the public learning of his infidelities.
1) If he’s never the same player again, then this scandal will always be remembered as his ultimate downfall.
2) Although there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest it at this time, if any evidence ever came to light regarding Woods and HGH usage, it would be very difficult for him to overcome.
Affairs, no problem.
Assaults, DWI’s, and even a possible murder, still not a big deal.
Steroids usage, however, and you’re in deep, deep trouble in the court of public opinion.
For one reason or another, steroid usage is a mistake not easily forgotten by the American public.
Ray Lewis was in some way involved in two murders back in 2000, whether he took part in them or was simply a witness to the actions of his friends is a debate that still rages to this day.
Today, Lewis appears in commercials for the NFL’s Children’s reading program and was on the cover of the Madden 2005 video game...had he done steroids though, that might have been the end of him.
Involved in a murder? That’s OK.
Steroids usage? Might not be OK.
It’s a strange world we live in when you really think about it, huh?
There are many athletes who have overcome steroid usage and have regained the respect of the American public. Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte are two who immediately come to mind.
But a large majority of the “steroid users” in sports are never forgiven by the public.
Anyway, back to Mr. Woods.
Affairs, transgressions, infidelities, or whatever else you may call it, will be all but forgotten about in midst of a huge comeback story.
It’s like that child who is throwing a temper tantrum because he doesn’t want to leave the park. Put an ice cream cone in front of him and within minutes he won’t even realize that he’s walking away from the park.
If there’s anything we like more than watching public figures fall from grace, it’s watching them pick themselves up off the floor and make a triumphant return.
If Woods comes back some time in 2010, wins a few tournaments and maybe the British Open at St. Andrews, by 2011 you will undoubtedly hear men in the galleries saying “Hey, you remember when Tiger Woods had those affairs a few years back?”
Bill Clinton had an affair in the White House and was impeached for lying about it. Today he receives standing ovations everywhere he goes and gets paid mega-bucks to speak at the same types of corporations that have either already dropped Woods or are thinking about dropping him.
Who would have thunk it when he was sitting in front of the cameras saying, “I did not have relations with that woman?”
Tiger Woods has made some terrible decisions, there’s absolutely no question about it.
However, hitting golf balls again is one of the few intelligent decisions he’s made over the past few weeks.
Because getting back on the course and winning is the only way Woods can make the American public begin to see this whole ordeal in their rear-view mirrors.
In our society, winning and success cures all. Just ask Kobe Bryant, Ray Lewis, Bill Clinton, Marv Albert, and every other public figure who has overcome an embarrassing scandal in recent years.
