Tiger Woods: He Finally Does The Right Thing
The Tiger Woods saga has run the gamut from weird to ridiculous to scary to downright crazy. In the two-week-long soap opera the public has found out things about the man's private life that should have never made the airwaves.
I realize some of us got a good chuckle at his misfortunes. I realize many of us swore him off as a terrible human being. I realize we all had a good reason for doing so.
For two long weeks we have all seen and heard daily reports on who Tiger slept with, when he slept with them, and why he did it.
Throughout all of this Tiger has remained silent, except for the lone statement made about his past "indiscretions." Tiger has hid from everyone.
Who can blame him?
Whether he's been contemplating his next public move, huddling with his advisors, talking sponsors out of leaving him, or trying to reconcile his marriage, we do not know.
Now it appears all that time has not been wasted. Tiger has apparantly decided what to do.
According to a statement on his website, Tiger is taking an indefinite leave from golf.
Tiger said, "I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person."
"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children."
"I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."
Thankfully for those that actually matter, his family, Woods has finally realized what he needs to do.
Tiger doesn't need to worry about sponsors, golf courses, his game, or his image. Tiger's number one priority right now should be exactly what he said in that statement, his family.
Sure, it would have been beneficial to have thought about that before all this mess happened, but just because he's the greatest golfer that has ever lived doesn't mean he's not human.
In my opinion, Tiger needs to be away from the game for at least a year—or at least until he and his wife decide what to do about their marriage.
It will definitely cost the PGA a lot of money and it may cost Tiger some endorsement and appearance money.
It finally appears that Tiger is more concerned about a much greater loss than anything Nike, Buick, the U.S. Open or the Masters could ever provide, his family.
