Alabama: Nick Saban: Good Fortune On The Recruiting Front
What a great turn of events for Alabama and Alabama Football. Just a few short years ago Alabama was suffering through NCAA Sanctions. Only this year a conclusion was handed down on the more recent "Text Book Scandal". One of the longest standing continuous probation periods was extended again. Then came the change of fortune.
Alabama has won the SEC for the first time in more than a decade. The Tide is off to represent the SEC in the BCS National Championship Game. Fans and players alike are enthusiastic and the future is bright.
There is a sequence of events that appears to make the future even brighter. It seems that providence has fallen right in the lap of the Alabama recruiting effort. LSU has announced it is under investigation by the NCAA for undisclosed recruiting violations. Tennessee has announced it is under investigation for recruiting methods by the NCAA. Georgia has been inflicted with several minor recruiting violations. Auburn was punished for recruiting violations. While many of these are of the minor type, they will certainly impede recruiting efforts for these rivals.
The even more fortunate part is that in each case the violations took place the recruits involved had been sought by and rejected Alabama. With every major recruiting player in the geographical area around Alabama having had recruiting problems, this can only be good news for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
When listening to well known Alabama Supporter Paul Feinbaum on the radio today, I was reminded of the absolutely astonishing good luck that has befallen the Tide this year. Undefeated season, SEC Championship, Possible BCS Championship, Every Major Recruiting Rival getting investigated and hampered in their recruiting efforts. This has been a truly fortunate turn of events for Alabama considering just a few years ago.
The entire geographical region around Alabama has been hampered by investigation. In the mean time Alabama is just Rolling and Rolling toward a meeting with destiny. This would have never occurred to me if I had not been fortunate enough to accidentally over hear Paul Feinbaum talking to Shane today. One can get his good fortune from the most unexpected places.
Alabama fans should take hart that they are the only program that is not having problems or being investigated by the NCAA. The "Tide" has turned in just a few short years.
