Pride and Prejudice and Ndamukong Suh
Remember, remember, the 5th of December. BCS treason and plot, I see no reason the BCS treason should ever be forgot.
OK, maybe I’m being overdramatic….maybe.
First and foremost, I am a Nebraska fan, and I do think we got cheated. Those are just my personal feelings.
While most of Texas is feeling relief—sorry TCU—Nebraska is feeling many emotions.
In fact, I thought Mack Brown said it best when he said, "I think in Lincoln, it will be the clock, and in Austin, it'll be the comeback."
For the Husker faithful I have talked to, in the fallout of this year’s Big 12 Championship, it hasn’t been the clock.
It has been the Blackshirts, it has been about Ndamukong Suh, and it has been about pride.
Nobody gave Nebraska a snowball’s chance in hell against the Longhorns.
I kept shaking off comments from friends and one family member who are Texas fans.
I heard many commentators say Nebraska was going to get rolled.
Saturday, I was proudly wearing my favorite Nebraska shirt and thinking about the game.
I was hoping that our defense would be enough to stop Texas, knowing that our offense would need a miracle to score any TDs.
I watched the game at home with my family.
I was on the edge of my seat screaming at the officials for bad and non-existent calls.
My dog, Sirius, yes named partially because of the tunnel walk song, was wearing his Husker bandana and barking along when I was yelling.
I would chant “SUUUUUUUH” every time I saw the big man break though obvious holds and still make time to introduce Colt McCoy to the turf.
I swear, I almost heard a Wilhelm scream come from McCoy when Suh launched him in the air once.
Speaking of Suh, as of this evening, he has been invited to New York as a finalist for the Heisman.
Congratulations Mr. Suh.
If any player deserves it, he does.
I can honestly say that not just as a Nebraska fan, but as a fan of college football.
He is without a doubt the best player in college football this year.
Suh is such an impressive player that I will finally have a reason to choose a NFL team to follow.
Anyway, back to my story.
There is one major feeling Nebraska fans have right now, PRIDE.
The Huskers went in as 14-point underdogs and, because of our defense, came out holding their heads high.
Even if you don’t like Nebraska, you have to admit the Blackshirts put on an amazing show.
Bo Pelini has done his job with this team; he was brought in to restore our defense to national dominance.
Now we just need to work on the other side of the ball.
How you may ask, well like everyone else I have my suggestions.
* “Cough, Cough” get rid of Shawn Watson” *
(Do’h! I tried to make it to the end of this article without making that dig. However, you can ask anyone I have watched games with, I have always thought he should have been out when Callahan got the boot.)
I digress, where was I?
Oh yes, pride. I am proud of my Huskers.
I let my Blackshirts flag fly for extra days in front of my house; I had my “N” sign proudly displayed in my front yard until today.
Now, with the Ultimate Blackshirt a finalist for college football’s top honor, I am putting my gameday decorations back up.
Bring on the Holiday Bowl, bring on Arizona, and hell, bring on Texas again.
I am ready, Nebraska is ready, Bo is ready, Carl is ready, the Huskers are ready, the Blackshirts are ready, and Ndamukong Suh-perman is ready!
GO BIG RED!
