Playing Matchmaker: UFC Light-Heavyweight Division
We are waiting longer than we want to figure out who the true champion of the division is. In the meantime let's propose some good match-ups to help sort out the rest of the UFC's longtime marquee division.
Quinton Jackson VS Antonio Rogerio Noguiera
With Rampage stating a return to the UFC, and previous opponent Evans already booked with Thiago Silva, throw Jackson back in the mix with Lil Nog. These two are both top of the heap elite fighters who could easily by fighting for the championship. They deserve each other and never got the chance to duke it out back in Pride FC.
note: Perhaps the UFC plans on having Rampage wait for Evans regardless of the outcome of his fight with T. Silva. I hope this isn't the case. Let's see fighters fight.
Brandon Vera VS Jon Jones
Both are exciting dynamic and dangerous fighters coming off of high-profile controversial loses. Jones proved that he is ready and deserves a big name fighter. Vera has been coasting and this will be his last chance to finally step up- otherwise Jones will put him in his place.
Forrest Griffin VS Bader/Jardine winner
The winner of the Bader/Jardine fight should get a crack at the former champ. Jardine has beat Forrest once before, but has been less impressive in subsequent fights. Bader is still upcoming, but with a win over a name like Jardine, he's on track to take on the elite.
Rich Franklin VS Luiz Cane
Both coming off of crushing 1st round TKO losses. Rich has trouble with good Brazilian strikers (who happen to be fellow southpaws) and Luiz looks like he struggles against patient, well-rounded, and technical fighters. Who can take their game to the next level and overcome their weakness?
Eric Schafer VS Alexander Gustafsson
Gustafsson had an impressive debut, but being able to defeat Schafer would show that he really belongs. Schafer is extremely talented and could gain some deserved momentum with a win against the less experienced, but highly touted Swede.
Matt Hammill VS loser of Evans/Silva
Hammill came away from the Jones fight a battered man, but a win is a win. The loser of the Evans/Silva fight is still a big name fight for Hammill, and will have big implications for the division.
