Tide and Texas Advance: Weekend Selections For College Football Week 14
FROM MACHORHINO.COM - THE CURE FOR MALE PATTERN BOREDOM
One undefeated will fall this weekend in college football. Alabama collides with Florida in the SEC Championship with so much on the line. A win brings an undefeated regular season, conference championship and a spot in the BCS Championship game. Also for the winner could be a Heisman Trophy for one of their players. A big performance from Tim Tebow of Florida or Mark Ingram of Alabama could swing a lot of votes. Texas is on the verge of a BCS spot but must defeat Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship first. Enough of that, let’s get to the picks!
1. Florida 20 vs. 2. Alabama 23 – This is basically like being in the final four in basketball. You win, you’re playing for the national title. This is a rematch of last year’s game which saw the Gators win 31-20. Florida returns Tim Tebow but not as many offensive playmakers from that team. Carlos Dunlap, the star defensive end for Florida is out indefinitely following his arrest earlier this week for suspicion of DUI. This is a big loss for the Gators but they have so many playmakers on the defensive side they should be able to absorb the loss on the field but does it hurt them psychologically to now have this distraction? Alabama is coming off a game where they had to scored a late TD to beat rival Auburn. Does that momentum carry over to this week? I see this as a back and forth game. I picked every game you see below this before this one. It’s so tough to pick because they’re both great teams. I think the revenge factor leads Alabama to a win.
3. TCU – Regular Season is over.
4. Texas 30 vs. 11. Nebraska 17 – Colt McCoy is coming off a performance on Thanksgiving many believe might win him the Heisman. Nebraska just doesn’t have enough playmakers on offense to keep up with the Longhorns.
5. Boise St. 42 at New Mexico St. 14 – The Broncos will cap another undefeated season and hope for a BCS bowl invitation.
6. Cincinnati 31 at 19. Pittsburgh 21 – Cincinnati is a very good team and I’d love to see them face TCU if they’re not in the BCS Championship game but that seems like a long shot. Cincinnati will keep their high powered offense going this week and win at Pitt.
7. Oregon 41 vs. 10. Oregon St. 37 – A huge game for both teams as a spot in the Rose Bowl hinges on the outcome. This is the biggest “Civil War” since the American Civil War. Both teams have great ground games but it’s the dual threat of Duck Jeremiah Masoli. If college football had a playoff, I’d have the Ducks going far in my bracket. This is a game you’ve got to watch.
8. Virginia Tech – Regular Season is over.
9. Ohio St. - Regular Season is over.
12. LSU - Regular Season is over.
13. Penn St. – Regular Season is over.
14. BYU - Regular Season is over.
15. California 31 at Washington 17 – Cal gets to 9-3 with a win over the Huskies. Might be your last chance to see Jake Locker in a UW uniform so enjoy it Washington.
16. Stanford – Regular Season is over.
17. Georgia Tech 28 vs. Clemson 31 - This one is for the ACC Championship and is a rematch of a great game from earlier in the season. In that game, Georgia Tech jumped out to a huge halftime lead but Clemson came charging back and nearly pulled off the upset. Both teams are trying to rebound from disappointing losses to state rivals last week. I look for Clemson to win this one behind C.J. Spiller. I think they’ll be ready for the option attack and stop it enough to win.
18. Iowa - Regular Season is over.
20. USC 21 vs. Arizona 13- What was a great start to the season fades for U of A as they lose another one.
21. Utah – Regular Season is over.
22. Miami - Regular Season is over.
23. Houston 35 at East Carolina 38 – Houston has an unbelievable offense and might lose it’s coach after this year because of it. They travel to East Carolina for the Conference USA Championship. ECU has a good coach also in Skip Holtz and a very experienced team. I think experience and home field is tough to beat.
24. West Virginia 20 at Rutgers 27 – A battle of 8-3 teams to cap good seasons for both. Bowl positioning and a chance to get to 10 wins are at play here so there’s motivation on both sides. Rutgers will edge out WV at home.
25. Oklahoma St. - Regular Season is over.
Based on how I see the weekend playing out, here’s how I’d like to see the BCS look:
BCS CHAMPIONSHIP: Florida vs. TCU
ROSE: Ohio St. vs. Oregon
FIESTA: Texas vs. Boise St.
SUGAR: Alabama vs. Cincinnati
ORANGE: Clemson vs. Iowa
