Clemson Running Back C.J. Spiller Wins ACC Player of the Year Award
The ACC media made a big mistake when they voted for All-ACC honors. They relegated C.J. Spiller to special teams, while lesser running backs gained first team honors on the offense.
Today, the members of the ACC media made up for their mistake, voting Spiller the 2009 ACC Player of the Year. Spiller recorded 29 of the 40 votes cast, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt.
Thanks to the newly named ACC Player of the Year, Clemson will appear in its first ever ACC Championship this Saturday.
C.J. Spiller has put up phenomenal numbers this year, breaking records left and right. This season, Spiller has:
-Set the ACC career all-purpose yardage record
-Set the ACC single season all-purpose yardage record
-Set the NCAA career kick return touchdown record
-Scored nine touchdowns of over 55 yards
-Scored a touchdown by rushing, passing, receiving, and returning
-Rushed for 310 or more all-purpose yards in two games
If you think those stats are impressive, consider this— Spiller enters the ACC Championship Game ranked fifth in NCAA history in career all-purpose yardage with 7,115.
All five of Clemson's previous ACC Players of the Year won the ACC Championship at some point during their Clemson careers. Hopefully, C.J. can join their ranks with a win on Saturday and show everyone why he is the best player in the ACC.
