Hester's Rear End, McNabb's Speech and Another Heartbreak

Justin ShepardNov 24, 2009

It's over Bears fan. The season of high hopes has been crushed. The Bears, who fell to a 4-6 record after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday, are now officially done. The stats prove it. Since the NFL has started only seven percent of teams who start the season 4-6 make the playoffs. This squad, and it's chemistry doesn't have it in them to beat those odds.

The game itself and what transpired summed up the entire season.

On a third down play Jay Cutler dropped back to find Devin Hester, not only did the ball skid off of the field at Soldier Field, but Hester's pants were practically around his ankles. The whole national televised world got a glimpse of Hester's tush. Now I don't know if anybody else seen it but it is all over the internet, so Google search it (if you're into that stuff.)

I personally have never been exposed to this type of thing while watching a prime time football game. Which leads me to believe that something like this could only happen to a Bears player. Think about it seeing Hester's butt may be the only thing Bears fans have to be excited about (once again if that's your thing.) Me, I looked at it like this, what else could the Bears players, coaches, and organizations do to offend me this season? Not only did they tell me all pre-season that this is one of the "best teams ever" in Chicago but they ruin everything I had to look forward to between the months of November and February.

Seriously, football is all a guy has during those months. If you're in my position, and I know a lot of you are, then you're left muttering the name Rex Grossman under your breath for the next few months. Why? We all know why, because now we have nothing besides Thanksgiving at the in-laws, Christmas at the in-laws and worst of all Valentines Day. Yes I know in just a couple short days we'll get to watch some football and gourge on some food but the very next day is Black Friday. Which more than likely means going shopping with.. guess who, the girlfriend/wife and the in-laws.

The Bears honestly, have been the biggest disappointment in all of the NFL. With the addition of Cutler and Pace our offense was supposed to make Matt Forte and Hester better. Instead were left with a guy name Kahlil Bell being the break out performer against the Eagles. Bell reigns from UCLA and the Bears were very high on him during training camp. But, that doesn't make up for Forte, Pace and Cutler. Let's just hope that the rest of the way, when the Bears have nothing to lose, that they'll show some flashes of the "greatness" I was promised this season. At least give me something to look forward to in 2010.

On another note, Donovan McNabb, a Chicago native, pulled Cutler aside after their Sunday night matchup. What was said, nobody knows. Cutler refused to comment saying, "That’s between me and him. I will say he’s a first-class guy. He’s a guy that I’ve admired from afar. He’s been through some ups and downs. I think he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league."

I'm hoping McNabb said something along the lines of, "Maybe next season you should concentrate on throwing the ball to your team." or "Look kid, you're not Brett Favre, you'll never be Brett Favre, so stop making throws that ONLY Favre can make."

Cutler needs to desperately realize that not only is his performance sub-par this season, it's almost atrocious. Cutler has thrown passes this season that he knows won't be completed. Look at the final play of the game against the Eagles. Forte was wide open in the center of the field. Why not pass the ball to a running back, who has the ability to make people miss in the open field and at least pick up the first down? No, instead Cutler made an ill advised throw to Olsen, again.

I realize that watching the game while laying on my couch makes it easy to criticize, but come on! Cutler relies too much on his arm strenght, he's cocky and thinks he can make throws that only a hand full of quarterbacks can make. I'm sorry to break the news but Jay is not one of the few select quarterbacks with precise accuracy.

Enough with my rant, I'm just upset and bitter with the way this season has turned out in Chicago. As a Cubs fan I'm used to losing but, for some reason I'm still upset.
