Toronto Raptors Jarrett Jack- Statement Game Against Indiana
By Louis “King of Roncesvalles” Pisano
The Indiana Pacers couldn’t make room, monetarily speaking, or so they said, when Jarrett Jack wanted to resign with the team last year.
Jack said to the media that he is a loyal guy, that he wanted to resign with Indiana, and that he was appreciative of the chance they gave him to further his career.
Toronto’s GM Bryan Colangelo is looking pretty smart for picking up this agile point guard, and tonight Jack will have a chance to face his old team, though he was only with the Pacers for a year.
Jack fit in right away with Toronto, having roomed with Chris Bosh in college. He has proved to be a valuable asset albeit early in the season.
While coming off the bench for Jose Calderon, he’s averaging 7.1 points and 3.6 assists per game and is shooting .378 percent from beyond the arc.
Granted those aren’t outstanding numbers, they are solid.
He had a season high 17 points two games ago in the 120-113 win over Miami, and a season high 11 assists in the last game against Orlando in a 104-96 loss.
He continues to improve, and I still believe the best is yet to come from this 26 year-old, as he becomes more accustomed to his team mates and the system coach Jay Triano is trying to implement here in Toronto.
Tonight could be another stepping stone for Jack and the Raptors, as a win will vault them past Indiana into the eighth and final playoff spot. I know it’s early and standings don’t mean much at this point, but it may give a jolt to their confidence seeing their team sitting in a playoff position.
The win will also bring them to just one game under .500 on the year, with Charlotte next on the docket and a chance to move to “Even Steven” for the season.
With Jack’s knowledge of the tendencies of his former team, the Raptors may have a little bit of an added advantage. Mix that with the fact that Indiana has been a notoriously poor road team, although they are 2-2 on the road this year.
Toronto has played its best basketball on its home court (4-2), as most teams do. though have been on the road for most of the season due some scandalous schedule making, id.
Indiana had a five game winning streak that has now turned into a three game slide, hopefully the Raptors, who are favoured by five, and Jarrett Jack can add to that and hand them their fourth loss in a row tonight at the ACC.
GO RAPS!
