Brett Favre: MVP! MVP! MVP!

Straight Outta V-TownNov 22, 2009

Yes Brett Favre deserves to be the MVP for the first time since he won 3 MVPs in a row from 1995-1997. He is clearly playing out of his mind right now.

Adrian Peterson may be one of the top running backs in the league, but he's not having a monster season like Favre is. Chris Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew are probably having better seasons out of running backs alone.

Favre is outplaying the likes of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, and Donovan McNabb. The Vikings are probably the most complete team in the NFL.

They have a potent running attack, anchored by Peterson and Chester Taylor, an excellent receiver out of the backfield and could probably start for a number of teams. Favre is providing a fearsome aerial attack as well with receivers Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin and tight end Vishante Shiancoe emerging as stars despite the injury to last year #1 receiver Bernard Berrian. Their offensive line is great with Steve Huchinson. Their pass rush is amazing with Jared Allen, Pat Williams, and Kevin Williams. Their secondary is also good, anchored by elite corner Antoine Winfield.

Last year all this team lacked was a superstar quarterback. Favre proves to be exactly just that. He is having the best season of his career despite having no big-name wide receivers on his team. He is proving that at age 40, he is still the best quarterback in the NFL.

Favre is an American hero, an ironman who never missed a game in his career despite the tragic death of his father, his wife's cancer diagnosis, and the destruction of his hometown in Mississippi by Hurricane Katrina. Such professionalism is never seen since the days of Lou Gehrig. He's a larger than life, Paul Bunyan-like figure who inspires million. He's a dying breed that is rarely seen in the 21st century.

The media fell out of love with him the past couple of years and felt the need to bash him. They accused him of being a diva, washed-up, cancer, and all sort of nasty names during the offseason. The reason they try to bring an inspiring American hero down still baffles me. Nevertheless, it is great to see Favre shutting his critics up.

Hopefully, they will do him right by naming him the MVP.
