What Happens When An Unstoppable Force Meets An Unmovable Object?

Chris Topher Bean Nov 21, 2009

Forrest Griffin v.s Tito Ortiz (The Rematch)

Even Forrest has said that he always knew that he would be fighting Tito again. And in all honesty, so did anyone else who thought about it. The fight was to close to call, and I honestly believe that Forrest won the fight. Tito dominated the first round and then Forrest came back and won the last two, in many peoples opinions that is. The folks who felt that Ortiz won the fight, credit it to the takedown that Ortiz scored in the last thirty seconds of the third round.

What I think that everyone needs to remember is the fact that after that takedown was executed, Forrest got back to his feet fairly quickly and landed some big bombs. Forrest won the final exchange. And many people believed that those final bombs, and the winning of that final exchange, won him the fight and made that takedown count for less then it would have had Forrest not won the final exchange. But, the judges gave Tito the nod, whom the argument that he won could also be made and has been made before. But what will happen the second time around?

I believe that Forrest Griffins striking is much better then Tito Ortiz's. Not that Tito can't go in there and bang along with the best of them, but Forrest is just better at the stand up portion of the Mixed Martial Arts game than Tito is. Some people might try to make the argument that Tito's ground game is superior to Forrest's, well as everyone already knows, or should know, Forrest probably has one of the most underrated ground games of any fighter in Mixed Martial Arts. I think that if anyone thinks that Forrest Grififn's ground game is suspect, then they should go back and watch his dominating performance over Shogun Rua. Not only did he beat Shogun up while on the feet, he also dominated on the ground. That fight was pretty one-sided in Forrest's direction. And luckily the judges gave him the nod at the end of three rounds. Forrest is extremely well rounded, and is still learning amazingly. Now, Forrest has been knocked out in his last two fights. And many people have been bringing this fact up when predictions for this fight come up. But look at who he has fought in his last four fights. Shogun Rua, whom he dominated. Then his title fight against Quinton Jackson, whom he looked incredible against. After that was his first title defense against Rashad Evans. Now Forrest may not have won that fight, but he didn't exactly get and ass beating either. He was beating Rashad up until he got caught on the ground with a big punch that knocked him out. After that, well we all know what happens when someone faces Anderson Silva... They get knocked out. Yes, Forrest has lost his last two fights, but he has only lost one of those badly. He did what most other people won't against Silva. He was agressive and pushed the action until he got knocked out.

People keep saying that coming off of two back-to-back knockout losses is going to mess with Forrest's head and may cost him the fight because of the pressure. But, based on Griffin's recent comments on just going into the Ortiz fight looking to have fun, I dont think that the pressure's really playing much havoc with his head. Forrest will be ready come fight time in just a few hours time and he looked great physically and in good spirits at the weigh-in's yesterday.

Tito also looked very good at the weigh-in's and got into Griffin's face during the stare down, but Tito has more playing against him in this fight then Griffin does. Tito has recently recovered from major back surgery. And let's face it, you are never 100% again after surgery on your back. You lose a good portion of your power and the ability to put power behind shots. And he's also been away from the sport for more then a year. A year off. While Tito has been away from the sport and hard training everyday, Forrest has been fighting some of the world's best at 205 pounds and in any weight class (*Cough* Anderson Silva *Cough*). So that will definetley play a factor in the fight. Griffin has also switched camps. From The Hardcore Gym in Athens Georgia to Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas Nevada.

I think, if you haven't figured it out by now, two things are true. One, that Forrest is the better fighter and has the better chance of winning this fight. And two, that this fight has the ability to be one of the best fights of the year. Just like there fight three years ago was.

Both of these men are going to come to fight. And Forrest Griffin is going to keep pushing forward and Tito Ortiz isn't going to back down or fall easily.

On November 21st, we will finally found out what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. Tito Ortiz v.s Forrest Griffin 2. It's On!
