Should the Detroit Lions Trade Calvin Johnson? Don't Laugh, It Makes Sense!
Like most everyone, I thought Calvin Johnson would be the greatest wide receiver in the game someday.
After three years, I still feel that way.
Let's face it, we all got the "warm and fuzzies" thinking about Stafford-to-Johnson TD passes and a high powered Lions offense ever since the Lions signed Stafford as their No. 1 pick.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
But I'm starting to feel bad for him because I realize he'll never be able to showcase his considerable talent as long as he's playing for the Lions.
After 10 weeks, reality has set in...this team has so many deficiencies they can't be successful with even the simplest of plays, such as a screen pass.
The idea of watching Calvin wasting away each game because the Lions can't get the ball to him is so frustrating for us fans, not to mention how he must feel!!
The really sad news is this situation is not going to change soon. They can grab other teams "throwaways" but those players are bandaids, not long term solutions.
The best way to add quality players is to draft them, but it'll take several years for the Lions to accumulate enough talent to make the playoffs, let alone a championship.
Johnson has to realize this and as a fan, you wonder how long will he'll want to remain a Lion.
Put yourself in his situation...you have skills very few (if any) wide receivers have. You can be the best of the best, to redefine the wide receiver position completely, and you're in your prime.
But you're stuck with a team who can't even get 10 passes a game to you because your quarterback is ether running for his life or on his back.
Is Johnson in danger of losing his passion for the game like Barry Sanders did, playing year after year for a losing team?
So, I say for the good of Calvin Johnson and the long term good for the Detroit Lions, TRADE HIM...and get draft choices in return.
Look for my follow up article..."Three things the Lions need to do in the off season ...that will drastically change their fate."
